Bryant, James Roy

James Roy Bryant of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on October 26, 2022, in Saint Louis, Missouri at the age of 88 years. He was born on December 4, 1933, in Waynesville, Missouri, the son of the late Lilbert and Goldie Viola Pearl (Murry) Bryant.

On July 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Shirley Geraldine Rice (Smith) who preceded him in death on April 4, 2005. James is survived by his son, Steven Mark Bryant and wife Sherry of Union, Missouri, his daughter, Monica Lynn Young and husband Keith of Mehlville, Missouri. Seven grandchildren: Brian Covington of Potosi, Missouri; Ben Young (Cassie) of Affton, Missouri; Andrew (Kathy) Warren of Imperial, Missouri; Joshua (Katie) Young of Tampa, Florida; Melinda Bryant of Washington, Missouri; Stephen (Claire) Bryant of Union, Missouri; and Justin (Amber) Bryant of New Haven, Missouri. Eight great children, Bennett Covington, Noah Bryant, Alice Young, Claire Warren, Hazel Bryant, Gabriel Warren, Lily Young, and Emmett Bryant.

James is also survived by four siblings, Tom Bryant of Dixon, Missouri, Ethel Dake of Dixon, Missouri, Jo Rodabaugh of Fairmount, Indiana, and Cecil (Betty) Bryant of St. Charles, Missouri, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by two daughters: Bobbie Covington and Duretta Brockmeier and 4 siblings; Barney Bryant, Kenneth Bryant, Hazel Stiles and Marion Bryant.

James proudly served his country in the US Navy and retired from the Naval Reserve on June 1, 1989, after 36 years of service. James was especially proud of wearing the Distinguished Navy Dolphins for his service and knowledge of navigating US Submarines.

While in the Naval Reserve James also worked for the Saint Louis City Water Division and retired in 1995 after 30+ years of employment. James enjoyed Cardinal baseball, fishing, working crossword puzzles, playing cribbage, pinocle, and spades and telling a joke or two on occasion. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #84 in Webster Groves, Missouri.

James was of the Baptist faith having accepted Christ as his Personal Savior in the late 1960’s. He enjoyed taking his children to church, being active with church work and acting as a sponsor at summer youth encampments. In his later years James continued to be involved with his church work by financially supporting Youth Programs and Mission Programs.

James never met a stranger and was loved by all who ever knew him. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Kutis Funeral Home on Lemay Ferry Rd in South County, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10:00AM at Kutis Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9:00AM

Interment will be at 2:00PM on October 29, 2022, at the Annapolis Cemetery in Annapolis, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to your local church Missions program, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital.

  3. Mr. Bryant was a wonderful man. Monica was my best friend in grade school . He always invited me to have dinner and to attend church with them. He always made me feel like I was part of the family. I know he will be greatly missed

  5. We want you to know that we will spiritually be with all of you. Your dad was one of the greatest man I have ever known. I hope you know that I loved him so very much. He was a God loving soul who helped me through many difficult times in my life. I know how bad you will miss him but Let us take solace that we will see him again.
