Helen M. Collins transitioned into eternal life on August 29, 2023, at the age of 85. Her journey was marked by devotion, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family, community, and profession.
A steadfast companion for five decades, Helen was the devoted wife of John (deceased), a love that stood the test of time. As a mother, she illuminated the lives of her three daughters: Anne (Frank) Fischer, Karen (Jerome) Frechette, and Jennifer (David) McAteer. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a loving Grandma to her cherished grandchildren, Michael and Madeleine Frechette.
Helen’s educational path led her to St. Louis University, where she achieved her BSN and laid the foundation for a fulfilling career. Her dedication as an ER and Public Health nurse reflected her deep-seated passion for helping those in need. Her impact was not limited to medical settings; she was an instrumental figure in shaping her community and her faith.
A founding member of Mary Mother of the Church Parish, Helen’s involvement reverberated through various Parish committees. Her contributions were particularly felt on the Parish Council, where she assumed multiple roles and also led the charge as the chair of the Liturgical Commission. Her guidance was not confined to her immediate community – she played a pivotal role in crafting the official Ministry of Parish Pastoral guidelines for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, a testament to her commitment to nurturing the spiritual well-being of others.
Helen’s wisdom extended beyond the local scope. She generously shared her knowledge and expertise through workshops and seminars aimed at establishing and enriching parish councils in the broader St. Louis area. Her reach knew no bounds, as she reached out to others with care, gentleness, love, compassion, and hope. Her memory will forever remain intertwined with the gratitude of those whose lives she touched.
In retrospect, Helen’s life journey was a symphony of selflessness, grace, and resilience. Her legacy will continue to shine as a beacon of inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing her, reminding us that a life well-lived is one that touches hearts, shapes minds, and leaves an indelible imprint on the tapestry of existence.

Helen was such a beautiful force in this world. To be changed so deeply by someone in such a short time, is truly a testament to who Helen was as a person. She made everyone who came into contact with her feel valued and at home. This is a massive loss for all that knew her, as the world had never known anyone quite like Helen. I am a better person and nurse because of her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the kind compassionate acts we put into the world on her behalf. Rest easy my friend 💜
