In Loving Memory

Courtois, John M.

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Saturday May 27, 2023.

Beloved husband of Dee Courtois (nee Wamble); loving father of Christopher (Denise) Courtois, Alicia (Joe) Borawski, Alexandria (Todd) Haloftis, Adrienne (Keith) McCormack and Jonathan Courtois; adoring grandfather of L. Haloftis, Nolan Borawski, Rose Haloftis, Carter Borawski, Reed Haloftis and Chase Courtois; dear brother of Nancy (Randy) Davis and Tony (Julie) Courtois; dear brother-in-law of Connie (the late Ken) Hahn, Michael (Nancy) Wamble and the late Kimberly Altland. Our dearest uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

The oldest of 3, John began his life playing baseball and working in his parents grocery store in Mineral Point, Missouri. Dee claims she picked John out of a friend’s high school yearbook. They would then go on to Southeast Missouri State, and later support each other as they built a dance studio and construction business. Their story continues in Oakville, Missouri, where they raised their family of 5 children which they considered their greatest blessings. They were blessed to have 53 years together, 46 married. They shared a lifetime of love, laughs, and beautiful memories. He was a contractor who spent his life building homes and completing projects giving other families spaces to create memories.

He enjoyed Cardinals baseball, hunting, family trips to the beach, Folger’s coffee, being outdoors, and spending time with his loved ones.

John was a loving husband, supportive father, and fun grandpa. Hardworking, tough, resilient. John was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he was also generous and kindhearted and would have done anything for his family and friends. He was intelligent and full of knowledge on a wide variety of topics, always winning at trivia board games and solving whatever household problems his children encountered.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, the love he gave, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, loved forever and never forgotten.

Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Thursday June 1 at 11:15 am. to Queen of All Saints Catholic Church for 12 noon Mass. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-8 pm.

  3. John and I went to grade school together at St. James Catholic school in Potosi, Mo..
We played baseball and graduated from Potosi High School in 1971. He was one of my best friends in grade school and accompanied me to St. Louis Bush Stadium in 1966 to see The Beatles. It is still one of my greatest memories! Prayers to his family and friends on his passing!

  5. So sorry and sad to hear about John’s passing. Remember him picking me up in his big construction truck to babysit for Christopher while Dee was teaching dance lessons. He was always happy and smiling. Such a great person. My mom always called him John Denver (which made me smile) because she thought he looked like him. Thinking of you, Dee, and all of your beautiful family. Sending love, hugs, and prayers. Denise (Galvan) Brandt and Family
