Richard Emmett “Trey” Doran III, beloved son of Richard Emmett Doran, Jr. and Kelli Denise Doran (nee Thompson), adored younger brother of Emily Nicole Doran, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully, with his parents at his side, on February 13, 2020, just two weeks past his 21st birthday. Trey was taken from those who loved him far too soon after an incredibly brave, year-long battle with Stage IV Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor, a rare form of Sarcoma.
Trey was born on January 30, 1999 and was a lifelong resident of Oakville, Missouri. He attended Mehlville-Oakville schools all the way through school, graduating from Oakville High in 2017. During high school, Trey pursued a variety of interests, including water polo, the swim team, and choir. He attended Ranken Technical College in the welding program (which he loved) up to the time of his diagnosis and treatment.
Trey was a fierce and loyal friend with a wicked sense of humor. During high school, he developed an expansive group of incredibly close friends. In his final year, during the course of his treatment, this group swung into action and took advantage of every opportunity to bring fun to his life.
Trey had a wide range of interests. He spent many years participating in Boy Scouts, and was a lover of history, nature, and most of all, the ocean and the beach. Trey was an avid explorer and adventurer who loved visiting parks, hiking, boating, and swimming. His love of the ocean led him to become a certified scuba diver, earning his PADI certification by completing rigorous dive tests. Trey was a passionate movie buff who especially enjoyed science fiction movies, action movies, and anything by Tim Burton. Like many young men, he also enjoyed gaming, but unlike a lot of young men, Trey also took the time to learn how to build his own computer in pursuit of his interest. Trey was an avid animal lover. He particularly loved his dog Evie and his cat Aika, who brought special joy and comfort at a difficult point in his life. Finally, Trey was someone who dreamed of helping people. Prior to his illness, he volunteered to help sandbag during a recent flood, and he spoke often of a desire to someday help in disaster recovery efforts rescuing people or animals.
During his illness, Trey spent every day with his family by his side, continuing to laugh and share his special gift of life right up to the end. He will be greatly missed by the many who loved him. Survivors Include: Parents Kelli and Rich Doran; sister Emily Doran; Grandparents Dennis and Sammy Thompson and Nancy Doran; Paternal Aunts and Uncles, Linda Stein, Tom and Helen Doran, Barbara Oaks; Maternal Aunts and Uncles, Darren and Amy Thompson, Jennifer Gibson, and Michelle and Brian Betner; Cousins Jarrett Stein, Luke and Graham Betner, Tyler Follis, Zachary, Lauren, and Brooke Gibson, Collin, Dillon, Noah, and Claire Thompson, Cameron and Cassandra Doran, Heather , Joe, and Josh Oaks, Marisa and Andrew Oaks-Erhardt, Raeleigh Oaks, and Jade Oaks-Feiteira. Trey was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Richard Emmett Doran, Sr. and his uncle, Joe Oaks, Sr.
