Saint Louis, Missouri – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward William Eigelberger “Big Ed”, 86, a remarkable man who lived a full life as a beloved husband, dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully at Barnes-Jewish West Hospital on April 12th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born on August 11, 1938, in St. Louis, MO, to Edward and Cathryn (Thein) Eigelberger. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1956. Ed spent a career in the wholesale food distribution business. His knowledge of the St. Louis Restaurant Scene was legendary. Ed was a “lover of life”. He affected everyone who met him with his stature and booming voice. Ed enjoyed travel in the United States and abroad with frequent trips to Canada for fishing, Hawaii, Napa Valley, Montana, and national parks. His “home away from home” was the Lake of the Ozarks where you could find him fishing with his grandchildren or driving his boat. Ed loved all sports and tinkering in his home workshop. He loved spending time with his 24 grandchildren whom he was especially proud of. Ed was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Ed is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Peters-Weber) of 31 years and the mother of his children Marianne C. Norrenberns (Kopff); his children, Edward W. Jr. (Joan) of St. Louis, Michele W. Wilferd of St. Louis, Maribeth A. Frederick (Patrick) of Olathe, KS, Michael J. (Linda) of St. Louis, and Dr. Monica S. (Steven Aliano) of Lafayette, CA. His grandchildren include Ian and Sarah, Madeline and Nick, Curran and Dr. Kristen, Conall, Keely, Nick, Hannah, Jessica, Colin and Brianna, Noah, Connor, Nathan, Vincent and William. His great-grandchildren include Oliver, Emersyn, and Georgette. Blended family members include Dean (Kelly) Weber, their children Leah and Alexa; Jeff (Kim) Weber, their children Levi, Abby, Jobe, Simon, and Rebecca; Tim (Shelly) Weber, their children Cole, Callyn, and Kaiya all of Washington, MO. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Thomas Eigelberger and brother-in-law Robert Moran. He is survived by siblings Ronald (Nancy) Eigelberger, and Janet Moran and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, April 25th at 11am at Assumption Catholic Church at 4725 Mattis Road, St. Louis. A private family burial at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Washington, MO on Saturday April 26th at 11am. A Celebration of Life will be held at Jefferson Barracks Park at 345 North Rd. W, St. Louis, the Black Hawk Pavillion, on Saturday, April 26th from 3-7 pm.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis at www.rmhcstl.org and Shriners Children’s hospital at www.shrinerschildrens.org.  Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at  https://assumptionstl.org/funerals

  1. Carolyn and I are very sorry for your loss. Ed fought a long and hard fight. He was a good man and have many friends and family who will miss him. We are praying for you through this time of sorrow.
