Evans, James L.

Loving husband of Karen Evans (née Nobs); dear father of Kelly Jager and father-in-law of the late David Lodike, and dear father of Jim Evans and father-in-law of Jennifer Evans. Dear grandfather of Evan and Lydia Jager and Katie, Ella, Will and Jack Evans; dear brother of the late Betty Claro and the late George Evans; dear brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

As a young man, James (Jim) was an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Guard. He graduated from Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman University). He returned to earn a Masters Degree in Education and was elected President of his Master’s class without campaigning. He taught business and coached football at Soldan High School. He then worked in vocational education for decades, beginning at Work Study High School as Assistant Principal and later as Principal of South County Technical High School. Thereafter, he worked in Administration for the Special School District and then returned to South County Tech until he retired.

Jim’s joy was coaching and his first love was football. He played in college and then treasured his time coaching football at Soldan. He loved to relive that time through stories about games, players and plays. He later took that love of coaching and applied it as a CYC soccer coach, introducing 4^th grade girls to wind sprints. Then four years later, he led that team to a South County Championship. Jim also loved the St. Louis Rams and still has a Kurt Warner ornament on the Christmas tree every year.

Jim was an avid athlete, and enjoyed golf and tennis with family and friends. He was an active member of the Most Precious Blood Parish Men’s Club. He and Karen also were blessed with a number of lifelong friendships, sharing in Halloween parties, constant get-togethers, cruises and European vacations.

Football aside, Jim loved his wife and family. He and Karen were married for 64 years and created so many wonderful memories with each other and their family. They spent hours in the (spotless) pool having fun, they danced in the kitchen for no reason and they shared love and laughter every day. Jim was devoted to his children and grandchildren and was always a go-to for advice or any question (especially about history). He was our cornerstone and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Friday, January 2 from 3-8 pm. Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel on Saturday, January 3 at 9:30 am. to St. Mark Catholic Church for 10 am. Mass. Interment at St. Trinity Cemetery.
