Sarah Frei, born in Cape Girardeau on August 20th,1983, discovered eternal peace on April 29th, 2025 in St. Louis, MO at the age of 41. In passing too early, Sarah is survived by her father Mark, mother Shirley, sister Emily (Ryan Brown), her two nephews Emil and Luke, brother Michael, and countless family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.
Loved by many and admired by all Sarah led an ambitious life caring for animals around the world as a veterinary doctor. A devout activist who championed the ideal of support for all through empathetic outreach. An energetic and loving aunt, a casual and entertaining sister, a successful daughter and source of pride; the perfect friend.
We are all struck by this sudden and unexpected change and we would like to invite everyone who has been impacted by Sarah’s influence to help us remember her at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123) on Sunday May 4th any time between 4pm and 9pm for visitation. You may also join us at her Celebration of Life ceremony on Monday May 5th at 11am. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Gateway Pet Guardians in Sarah’s name.
So, so sorry! My heartfelt condolences.
Sarah was such a beautiful and loving person. She was so caring and often carried guilt for not keeping up with folks, but it was not on her. I was lucky enough to live with Sarah and share in the day to day with her at a pivotal time in our lives. Nothing but the best memories. I will miss her.
Sarah, a beautiful soul. Your devotion, love, and presence was not lost on anyone. You have impacted so many lives for the better. Your legacy is one of loving compassion and immense intelligence. Although you will be missed by many, you will be forgotten by no one.
You gave me the ultimate gift. And, through that gift, we were brought closer together. I have always and will always love you.
The world is a little bit darker without her presence. I was always in awe of her. She was such a passionate caring person. Each animal she touched was like her own.
R.I.H. Dr. Frei…
I am so very sorry for her loss.. she was such a caring person.. my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.. she will be missed ..
Sarah/Punches wasso nice to me when I was a new Jeerleader for Arch Rival. She made me feel extremely welcomed. She had such a beautiful smile. When my best friend/cat had to have an eye removed, she took such good care of him and me when she was with the Humane Society. She helped keep me calm and let me know that he was going to be okay. The world has lost wonderful human being. My heart goes out to her friends and family
I remember helping out with the spay/neuter clinics she did some years back. It was a great experience working with her, and she is just such a beautiful, genuine person and compassionate vet. I would see her off and on as she worked at different places and read about everything she did for the animals. My heart hurts for her friends, family, and whatever she went through before she had to depart. 😭 I know she will be so very missed. The vet and rescue community lost a really good one. 💔
Sarah was such a sweet and caring person. My deepest sympathy for your loss.
I work with Dr Frei when she was the city of St. Louis vet. She was awesome to work with her. Her expertise was great and she love to teach. I also got to work with her at the HSMO and established a friendship. She will be really missed.
Sending my deepest condolences to Sarah’s family, friends, and all who knew her. She helped my 2 dogs on several occasions at Gateway Pet Guardians. She was always so good with them, and she was always kind and helpful to them and me. She had a beautiful smile, and I could tell she genuinely cared about helping my fur babies. She will be missed.
I worked with Sarah for many years. Her kindness & love for the animals in her care will always be remembered
My heart goes out to Dr. Frei and her loved ones. She was an amazing person and shelter vet colleague. She will be missed so much.
I only met Sarah on a few occasions, and she was very friendly and sweet. Such a loss to her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear lady.
I enjoyed working with Dr Frei. Her smile always calmed me during those difficult times. What a gift.
You were an incredible friend. I treasured our friendship & our opportunity to work together, while you were at KCPP. Why is there so much painful uncertain loss in this world? You will forever be one of the most beautiful selfless humans I’ve ever known. I wish I had more words to express how incredible of a person you were in my eyes. I’m going to miss you. I know all will. Give Charlie dog some cuddles, he’s waiting for you too ♥️
So very sorry to hear that your bright smile will no longer be shining among those of us here on earth. I got to know Dr. Sarah when she was a brand new veterinarian at the Humane Society. Even at that early stage of her career, I could see that she was bound to bring kind and compassionate care to all of the animals whose lives she touched. You were a special lady. My heart goes out to your family during this time of great sadness. May God welcome you home, my dear friend.
Sarah was such a wonderful mentor and great veterinarian. My heart goes out to her loved ones!
I am grateful I got to experience how smart and compassionate Sarah was as a caregiver, and how nice she was as a person. I didn’t know her well but I know her presence will be greatly missed by many. We are lucky she was here to take care of our dogs.
My deepest condolences to the Frei family. Sarah and I were childhood friends but unfortunately lost touch after I moved away. I have fond memories of jumping on the trampoline in the back yard with Sarah, Emily & Michael.
Sarah was such an inspiration to me, she taught me so much and was always so kind and lit up any room she entered with her smile. The world is a darker place without her shining her beautiful light. My deepest empathy goes out to her family, friends, and all whom she touched.
Dr. Frei was so inherently good. Kind, compassionate, & dedicated to helping animals and humans alike. I’m so glad to have had the pleasure of knowing her & I’m definitely a better person for it. The universe has definitely gotten a little dimmer without her in it. Rest easy Dr. Frei, I will always miss your smiling face.
Tell Gsxr hello and I still miss her. I’m happy to know that you are both at peace.
There are not enough words to describe what a unique and brilliant person that Dr. Sarah Frei was. I first met her when I was working at Affton Veterinary clinic which only lasted a few months but even in that short time, I knew she’d be someone I’d never forget. We bonded over our shared interest in personal self improvement and our mutual goofy pop culture references. I was blessed once more to work at Gateway Pet Guardians with her, where again we shared the interest of shelter medicine.
She was a selfless person who always went above and beyond to help the community members that GPG serves along with the volunteers and staff that she worked alongside to with. I would not be where I am today without the kind encouragement and support that she gave me while I had the honor to work with her. It’s going to be hard moving forward on this journey of life with her gone but she will always be alive in the memories of those that knew her.
Rest in peace Frei, watch over all the fur babies until we meet again.
Dr. Frei was always a bright smile. I treasure the time I worked with her at KCPP. She is gone too soon. Sending my love to her family and friends. She made such a positive impact in those she contacted whether we had 2 legs or 4.
Sarah was a beautiful light and I’m great to have known her. Thank you, Sarah. Love and light to all you love.
Emily and family,
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sarah was an amazing person and truly one of a kind. My heart goes out to you all.
I’m still in shock of Sarah passing. Her smile at GPG was very contagious. Sorry for your loss.
