Gerner, Elaine “Sissy”

(nee Bonifer) died peacefully on January 27, 2020 at Meramec Bluffs Care Center, Ballwin, Missouri. She was 83 years old.

Elaine is survived by her children and their spouses, Gale (Gerner) and Jim Whitehouse, Gregg and Norma Gerner, and Grant and Wendy Gerner, her grandchildren Zachary and Bethany Whitehouse, Seamus, Shannon, and Tara Gerner, her sister-in-law Pat Anghilante, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elaine is preceded in death by her husband George “Tony” Gerner.

Elaine was born on March 15, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Art and Hilda Bonifer. She attended Holy Cross Lutheran School and graduated from Lutheran High School. On February 4, 1956, Elaine and Tony were married. She worked for the Hazelwood School District until her retirement.

Elaine will be buried with a private graveside service. Everyone is invited to join us to celebrate Elaine’s faith and life at the Chapel at Meramec Bluffs, 50 Meramec Trail Drive, Ballwin, MO, on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Please wear your St. Louis Cardinals gear or a red shirt in her memory, it will be a casual celebration. A time for visiting will begin at 1:00 PM, with the service beginning at 2:00 PM. Her family gratefully requests no flowers. If you would like to make a charitable donation in her name Lutheran Senior Services Benevolent Care Fund or a charity of your choice.

Gale, Gregg, Grant, and the rest of Elaine’s family would like you to know that in mom’s final days, she focused on making sure that she told as many people as possible how much she loved and appreciated them. If you were in any way part of her life, she is thankful for your love and friendship.
