October 20, 1938 - October 13, 2023

Joan M. Gildehaus, 84, died October 13, 2023, one week before her 85th birthday. Married to David Gildehaus for over 45 years. Mother of Deborah Fendler (Donald), Jennifer Walker (Robert), and Carolyn Frey (Karen). Grandmother of Jordon Walker (Brittany), Andrew Fendler (Alleta), Kaitlyn Vahey (Bryan), and Hunter Walker. Great-grandmother of Kieren, Sylas, Trevyn, Myra, Everett and Nora. Daughter of Robert H. and June Sperreng, sister of Lynn Dengler (Harry), and aunt of Robert and James Dengler. Dear friend to many.

Joan worked for Southwestern Bell for 26+ years and served as a volunteer at St. Anthony’s Hospital during her retirement years. She was a long-time member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ and served on numerous committees. Joan was involved in the Red Hats Society, Bridge Club, High School Girls Club, Birthday Club, and was a long-time supporter of the Lindbergh School District. She enjoyed travelling, float trips, and entertaining, but the thing she loved most was spending time with her family.

SERVICES: A celebration of life will be at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 18th from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. The family invites you to join them for the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Private burial to follow.

  1. Joan was with always a leader, during our time at Lindberg High School, and continuing with organizing class reunions for many years afterword and I’m sure with many other organizations also. We had continued to get together when we where here in town up until about two years ago when her health had limited her ability to get out and do things. I will miss her and want to extend my sympathy to Dave and the rest of the family.

  2. Basil and I were sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. I always enjoyed talking to her at the neighborhood get togethers. She will be missed. Our condolences to the entire family.

  3. Sympathy to Dave & to Joan’s daughters & their families. Joan was a dear friend since Concord Grade School & Lindbergh High! We have so many great memories throughout the years! Keep Joan’s memories close to your hearts as they will stay with ours. Joan is safe now. Love from those left of our monthly Club since 1956. Ellen Littleton
