In Loving Memory

Gorse, John

February 18, 1936 - April 20, 2025

John Gorse passed away peacefully on Easter morning of April 20, 2025, after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer, multiple strokes, and numerous health challenges. He was 89 years old.

Born on February 18, 1936, in Marquand, MO, John entered the world on what remains the coldest February 18th recorded in that county—delivered in a one-room shack and kept warm over a stove. That resilient beginning set the tone for a life marked by unrelenting strength, perseverance, and deep devotion to those he loved.

John was the beloved husband of Ann (née Yount), the love of his life, partner, and best friend in all things for 68 years. He leaves behind a legacy of love and pride in his children, John Mitchell and his partner Maria, and Robin Angela, who brought him immense joy. He was a cherished grandfather to Justin Michael Stewart and Rachel Ann, and welcomed their partners, Kate and Aaron, into his heart as family.

A self-made man with calloused hands and a generous spirit, John built a life of purpose and integrity. He was a cement mason, home builder, and land developer—professions through which he shaped not only structures but also communities. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, never losing sight of the values instilled in him from his humble beginnings.

John loved his country deeply, stewarded the land with care, and lived his faith with unquestionable conviction. A faithful Christian and generous soul, he gave freely of himself—offering kindness, support, and wisdom to all who knew him.

He will be remembered for his strength, humility, and the deep love he held for his family, his God, and the world around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the principles he stood by.

Visitation will be held at the South County Kutis Funeral Home from 3pm to 6pm on Friday April 25th 2025. Funeral services to follow at 6pm. Burial services will be held at the Webb Yount Cemetery in Marquand, MO at 10am on Saturday April 26th 2025.

John was dearly loved, and he will be deeply missed.

  2. Very sorry to hear of John’s passing. So sorry he had a troubled last few years . He was a great mentor to me as I worked for him in the concrete business , and I know a great friend to our family. I’m sure he is giving glory to God and praise to Jesus at this very moment. Love to Ann, John and Robin!
