Gubser, Joseph John

Joseph John Gubser was born in St. Louis, MO to Adolph and Mary Nell (nee Schaefer) Gubser on April 18, 1952 and entered into rest on April 14, 2025 at the age of 72.

Loving husband of 49 years to Barbara (nee Obremski) Gubser. Dear father of Michelle (Matt) Steuterman, and Michael (Jane) Gubser. Dear brother of Pat (Vince) Spoto, the late Rose (Vince) Mundwiller, Maureen Dirkers, Christine (Jim) Dirkers, Tom (Julie) Gubser, Joan (Mark) Bueker, and Mary (Mark) Pruneau. Loving grandfather of Emma, and Grace Gubser. Dear brother-in-law of Linda Schimmoeller, Tom (Jane) Obremski, and Mary Shabansky. Dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.

Joseph worked as a Registered Nurse at BJC for 35 years. He loved music, the outdoors, gardening, photography, and most of all his family. His sense of humor and presence will be greatly missed.

A celebration will be planned at a later date to honor his life. Memorial donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Forest Park Forever. Please mark it as a tribute in honor of Joseph John Gubser.

  1. Joe was a good friend to me. I looked up to him like a big brother. He was so loved by his Jewish OR family. We all loved to tell OR stories and share memories. We all went on OR float trips with Gubser family. I remember how much Joe loved nature. You will be so missed dear friend.

    Joe was always there, always happy, always helpful and always willing to lend an ear in any circumstance, always did what he did best …
    being Papa Smurf !

    He was a great Assistant Manager, leading with kindness & wisdom.
    Edna Woods, Manager, once commented, people have no idea how valuable Joe is to me, doing so much behind the scenes.

  6. This was a complete shock to me. Joe was such a fun, thoughtful, and loving person. Always cheerful and good company. I’m glad I saw him over St. Patrick’s Day. My heart goes out to you Barb – may you find peace and strength in the days ahead. My prayers are with you, Michelle, Michael and all of the Gubsers’. He will be truly missed!

  7. Barb and family, I’m so very sorry to hear of your husband’s and Dad’s death. My heart goes out to you and I pray you find comfort from wonderful memories. We had great times at work and outside work, at house parties, Christmas celebrations, reunions, picnics and float trips , to name a few. Take care of yourself. Blessings.

  8. Barb, Justin, and I are heartbroken and still in shock over the news of Joe’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences. Joe had such a warm, welcoming spirit and a way of making everyone feel at home—he truly was the life of the party. His kindness, laughter, and friendship meant the world to us, and we will forever be grateful to have known him. Our hearts go out to you and your family during this incredibly difficult time.     I have fond memories of Joe at BJC – CAM OR. He was an Awesome boss. And will be greatly missed by many.
