In Loving Memory

Helm, Lawrence Joseph “Larry”

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at John Cochran VA Hospital after a short illness. Beloved son of the late E. Lawrence Helm, Jr and Dolores Dunne Helm, beloved husband of Martha Gellen, big brother of Eileen (Rick) Dreyer, Thom (Cathy) Helm, Peggy Madras, Tim (Barbara) Helm, Dan (Vivian) Helm and Jim (Janet) Helm. Coolest uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.

Born January 15, 1949, Larry was raised in  Brentwood and attended St. Mary Magdalen,  St. Louis U. High and St. Louis U before enlisting in the Marines and serving in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart. Ever since he has devoted himself to his beautiful bride and family, and served his fellow vets, bringing Stand Down for Homeless Vets to St. Louis, helping create the Homeless Veterans Burial Program, helping organize the Homeless Vets Christmas dinner and acting as St. Louis County Representative for Veterans Affairs as examples. Just this year he was honored as one of St. Louis Post Dispatch’s  Veteran Stories of Honor. It shouldn’t be a surprise that his family considers him their hero.

Larry’s family would like to thank the staff at John Cochran VA hospital for taking such exemplary care of him and his family during his time there. We couldn’t have asked for more generous and kind caregivers.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Afton Kutis Funeral Home 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. Funeral will be Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:30PM at Kutis with internment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery @ 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jefferson Barracks Military Food Pantry 24 Davis St. 63116 or St. Louis Marine Toys for Tots  https://bridgeton-mo.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.aspx.
