Our dear, sweet Mother, Shirley Rose Braun Hume, sadly passed away on 10.10.23, at the age of 89 after complications from surgery. She left school after 9th grade because it was difficult for her to fit in. She lied on her resume to get her first job with Southwestern Bell as an operator, however this led to 6 years later meeting Ramon, our dad. She was married for 42 years to Ramon Hume (who passed away in January 1999) at the age of 69. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She knew no strangers and was loved by so many. She was truly one of the funniest people you would ever meet but had no idea how funny she truly was. She was a simple, easy to please woman who lived for her family. We feel extremely blessed to have had her as our mother and to have her as long as we did. She leaves behind a son, Jon Hume (Rochelle), a daughter, Robin Chestnas (John), grandchildren Jordan Hume (Cara), Amanda Garn (Christian), Jess Hume (Kirsten), Jenn LeClair (Brett), Annie Rose Chestnas, Jordan Evans (Nick) and Emily Nobs. Great grandchildren Isabella Rose Garn, Jaxon Garn, Adalynn Garn (born 2016, passed 2016), Maveric Hume, Caroline Rose Hume, Annie Hume, Jack Hume, Eleanor Rose LeClair, Penelope LeClair.
Born during the depression, raised in an orphanage and foster care until the age of 10, when she was reunited with her mother, sister, and brother. She endured so much but always had a sunny disposition and had a smile to share. She was kind and thoughtful. She loved all animals and said her prayers every night. She found chocolate martini’s a few years ago, however her latest favorite was White Russians and everywhere she went – she would share that these are the best cocktails ever. She wrote poetry and would tuck little poems into our lunch or just because.
She precedes her sister, Lietta (nee Braun) Haenel in death, but joins her mother Beatrice Braun (2002) and brother Henry “Hank” Braun (1997) in heaven along with so many relatives and friends.
As much as our mom loved flowers, in lieu of them she would want you to take that money and spend it on you and your family enjoying your time together.
May God welcome her with open arms for heaven gained an angel.
SERVICES: Funeral will be on Wednesday, October 18th at 9:30 am at Kutis Affton Chapel (10151 Gravois Rd 63123). Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. She was simply the best. Period. She loved with all her heart, wore her emotions on her sleeve, and did not know a stranger. She loved life, and will be missed terribly.

My deepest sympathy to Shirley ‘s family. I knew her when she was in foster homes in St Louis. A hard life but she was always a happy person. I’m regretful that I didn’t get to St Louis one last time to say goodbye. My father

Met petite ,fiesty mom Hume over 30 years ago n always wondered how that (big tall Jon) could really be her son. She never met a stranger and was always kind to everyone. Loved her kids n there spouses and grandkids n great grandkids. would do anything for them. Lived a good full life. Loved her convertibles .And would always make you laugh. Always treated you like you were family. My heart goes out to the family. She will be dearly missed.A big void in your lives forever. but she will live on through all of you. Especially if you have a White Russian made just right .

Aunt Shirley was always the fun at the party. Always cheerful, laughing at whatever bad joke was told, and always excited to be with her family and friends. Whether it was at the Fontainebleau pool or in their backyard, Aunt Shirley was always bubbly and the best. She will be dearly missed and I’m so glad that my children got to meet her and appreciate fabulous sense of humor. We are sorry that we cannot be with you to celebrate the joy she brought to so many including me.
