It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, who left this world on October 11, 2024, at the age of 84. His loss leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, passion, and music will live on forever.

Born on September 19th, 1940, Martin had a zest for life that was evident to everyone who crossed his path. He embraced every moment with joy, whether spending time with his cherished family, sharing his gift of music, or guiding others in their professional journeys.

Music was the language of his soul. A gifted choral director and musician, his passion for harmony and melody touched the lives of countless people. His choral performances were renowned for their beauty, precision, and emotional depth. Whether leading a church choir in stirring renditions of sacred hymns or conducting his high school choirs, he had an innate ability to inspire those around him, leaving a lasting mark on his community.

In addition to his musical talents, Martin had a successful career as a real estate trainer, where he combined his love for teaching with his deep knowledge of the industry. He was known for his mentorship, guiding many toward professional success with patience and insight. His work ethic, integrity, and genuine care for others were the hallmarks of his career.

Above all, Martin was a man of unwavering faith, kindness, generosity, and compassion. He lived life fully, always bringing laughter and love into every room he entered. His boundless enthusiasm for new adventures, whether in music, cooking, or spending time with family, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Martin is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marilyn, his children Scott Johnson (Theresa) and Lynette Musgrave (Steve), and his grandchildren, Tyler (Allie) Johnson, Dakota and Halle Musgrave, Caleb and Emma Riordan, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of Martin’s life will be held on Sunday, October 20th, 2024 with visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and brief service at 5:00. Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis MO 63129. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Martin’s honor to one of the following.

  2. Mr. J was an inspiring force as a teacher and a friend. He not only taught me about how to sing well, he taught me about life. He demonstrated a zest for life and motivated others to live the same.
    He will leave a huge void on this earth, but always to be remembered by how he impacted everyone around him.

    instruction in music and singing encouraged me to finish high school and led me to my music career. I went on to college, became a nurse, started a family and I will be forever great full to him.

  6. An amazing man and talented musician who taught so many how to love music. Marty inspired many of us to teach and love his students as he loved each one of us. He is a Christian man who displayed his faith openly even choosing and teaching his students many religious pieces of sacred music in a public school.

He will forever be thought of for his depth of compassion, musical gifts, thought prevoking insights, Godly ways and fun Humor. I can only imagine how painful his loss is felt by his family.   8. Mr J. was one of my favorite teachers at Festus High School. I think he was fresh out of college and related well to students who were close to his age. What an awesome teacher and friend. I loved being able to interact with him these last few years on FB. He will be missed! May his faith carry your family as you say “goodbye, till you meet again”!

  10. My FHS Choir director, private siniging lessons teacher, choir director at 1st Presbyterian and then Grace Presbyterian, but most of a friend. Loved his sense of humor with his mischievous smile, unwavering friendship, love of music & the joy he found in it, but most of all his faithfulness and love of God.

  11. Mr. Johnson was the most influential teacher for me during my years at Fox. I first met him in the fall of 1967 and think of him often as I am sure I will continue to do until we meet again in heaven. Thank you for all you taught me and encouraged me to do.
