Maloney OBIT

In Loving Memory

Maloney, Jerome V. “Jerry”

October 21, 1941 - March 24, 2025

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Monday, March 24, 2025.  Beloved husband of the late Jeannette Maloney (nee Kuchera).  Dear father of Jerome Jr., Tim (Jen) and Keith (Katie) Maloney.  Dear grandfather of Collin, Allie, Lauren, Clare, Ryan, Luke and John Maloney.  Dear son of the late Clarence and Mary Adelaide Maloney (nee Bartels).  Dear brother of Charles (the late Elaine) Maloney, Patricia Ann (the late Joe) Spahn, James Maloney, Joan Marie (Francis) Welker, Paul (Shirley) Maloney and the late Tom (surviving Jewell) Maloney, Michael Maloney, Sr. Kathleen Mary Maloney F.S.M., Mary Agnes (Ab) Otte, Rose Margaret (Bill) Carroll and Joseph (surviving Jackie) Maloney.  Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

Jerry was born in St. Mary, Mo, the youngest of twelve siblings.  He graduated from Valle Catholic High School in 1959.  In 1960, he enlisted in the United Stated Marines Corps and served for four years, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in California. After earning an honorable discharge in 1964, he returned home, moved up to St. Louis, and began working as a furniture salesman. He met his wife, Jeannette, on a blind date, and they were married in May of 1968. Over the next eighteen years, Jerry worked a variety of jobs, primarily in the trucking and warehousing industries. In 1986, he decided to start his own business. Maloney’s Lawn and Landscape Service began operating in the spring of 1986, and would go on to provide quality lawn care and landscaping services in the St. Louis area for nearly 37 years. Jerry worked tirelessly to support his family. His work ethic was second to none, and he attributed this to the many years of his childhood spent clearing brush on the front hill down home. He instilled in his sons the importance of prioritizing faith, family, and work. He was beyond generous with his time, talents, and treasure, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed. When not busy with work and raising a family, he did manage to find time to indulge a couple of his favorite hobbies. He was an avid golfer and loved collecting model Lionel trains. With the arrival of grandchildren, he became a doting and supportive grandpa. He could always be seen at sporting events or school activities cheering them on.
While he spent his entire adult life in St. Louis, Jerry loved reminiscing about his childhood days in St. Mary. In the fall of 2021, he was able to purchase the family home that he grew up in. He loved spending time down home fixing the place up, reconnecting with old friends, and helping out with landscaping projects at the church.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy of a life devoted to family. Nowhere was this more evident than in his special relationship with his oldest son Jerome. Their love for each other was unconditional. They spent countless hours teasing each other, going on rides together, eating ice cream, and spreading cheer to all they met.
Jerry will be missed by many. And while we are sad now, we cherish all of the happy memories and laughs shared. We take comfort in knowing that he has gone on to find his peace with our Lord.

SERVICES:  Visitation at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (481 Pine Street St. Mary, Missouri 63673) on Monday, March 31, 9:00 a.m. until funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.  Interment Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church Preservation Society (P.O. Box 372 Ste. Genevieve, Missouri 63670) appreciated.

  5. So sorry for the loss of your father. He was such a nice classmate and came to almost all our reunions. After one reunion we had people over to our house and he came. I remember Jay liked my girls and recognized them when he would see them in South County. Give him a hug for me. I’m sorry we can’t make the funeral Monday. We did forward an email to the 1959 Valle Classmates and we made a donation to Valle in memory of Jerry.

  8. I taught at St. Martin of Tours for a number of years and I remember Jerry bringing the teachers and staff delicious donuts for us to enjoy. It was such a treat for us and generous of Jerry to think of us with a little indulgence.

    Rest in peace, Jerry.

  9. We are so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. He did a lot of landscape work for us and my parents for many years. He was a kind, generous hard working man. All of the projects were done to perfection, which was his work ethic. I know he passed these qualities on to his family as well. God be with you at this difficult time.
    Sandy and John Newman
