In Loving Memory

Neely, Jason Christian

Jason Christian Neely, 34, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family in his home on January 14, 2023, after a two-year battle with a rare form of cancer

Jason was born to Tom and Marta Neely (née Schomburg) on July 21, 1988. He was baptized in Christ on August 21, 1988 and confirmed in his faith on October 26, 2003 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. He attended Christ Community Lutheran School (class of 2003) and Lutheran High School South (class of 2007). He earned his B.S. in Earth Science and Education from the University of Central Missouri in 2012. After teaching for a couple years, Jason established a career playing with dirt as a lab technician at SCI Engineering.

Jason’s tremendous love for his family and friends was matched only by their love for him. If you knew him, you felt loved by him. He enjoyed laughing and making people laugh. Jason loved music, word games, trivia, game nights, birding, Coen Brothers movies, quoting episodes of Seinfeld, Civil Life American Brown ale, and a schmoky scotch whishkey [sic]. He made everything better.

Jason was the beloved brother of Jamie (Brian) Woods, Tommy (Kori) Neely, and Melissa (Mike) Oexeman. He was adored by his nephews, Tripp (4), Patrick (4), Dominic (2), Fritz (2), and Henry (2), and many others who knew him as uncle Jas(on). He will be deeply missed by cousins, aunts, uncles, and so many friends that loved him dearly.

Time for visitation and remembrance will be held from 3-8pm on Friday, January 27th at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel. A celebration of life will take place at 11am on Saturday, January 28th at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, preceded by a visitation beginning at 9am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, (St. Jude Tribute ID: 2331816 for donations by mail or phone) and/or Siteman Cancer Center.

  1. Marta, Tom and Family, I know your pain is deep and loss of a child is unimaginable. Remember the good times and the boy you love. Grieve at your own speed. I recall Tom’s visits with all four of your beautiful children in tow at work and how well behaved they were. Prayers and love to all❤️

  9. To all the Neely family:

We at the Maher & Co. family are all praying for you and your wonderful son Jason. We are so sorry for your loss. When we are lucky enough to be blessed with children we also know the risks of loving someone so much. Our hearts break for you. If you believe, you know Jason is now at peace. We wish your family the same.

  17. Tom, Marta, Jamie, Tommy, and Melissa–

We don’t have the words to express our deepest sympathies. Jason was a light in our home for all the years he was a fixture here. Full of laughter, thought, wonder, empathy, and kindness, Jason made the most positive impact on everyone he met. To know Jason was to love him, and we were blessed to have had that incredible person in our lives.

We are sending you love and lifting up prayers for God’s comfort and a peace that surpasses understanding.

With aching hearts and teary eyes, we are sad and miss Jason, but our Faith tells us to trust in the Lord, and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us hope everlasting. May you be blessed by His Peace that passes all understanding and by all of the Love we had for and received from Jason.

  31. Tom, I love you man. You’re a beast. Your son was cool I met him at my brother’s college. He was a nice guy. So much like his dad. I hate that I saw him like that. I can only imagine how you feel but I’ll do a shot with you in your basement anytime and talk about good times. I love you Tom and family. Call anytime you need anything for real. Move a couch whatever.
