In Loving Memory

Ottinger, Robert Dean II

March 26, 1958 - August 22, 2025

Robert Dean Ottinger II, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Hillsboro, Missouri, on Friday, August 22, 2025. Bobby spent most of his life in the St. Louis and Jefferson County areas, where he built a life rooted in love, service, and family.

In July of 2024, Bobby retired as Facilities Manager from the Salvation Army. His commitment to his work reflected his dedication, strength and steady presence—qualities that defined him throughout his life.

Above all, Bobby cherished time with his family. Whether it was a trip to Starbucks, a planned adventure to Colorado, or a spontaneous outing, he delighted in making memories with the people he loved most. His joy came not from grand gestures but from simple, shared moments—treasures he passed on to those around him.

(Cool Uncle Bobby) to his adored nieces and nephews.  Cousin, nephew and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dean Ottinger; his brothers, Kurt Ottinger and Todd Schwend.

A memorial service celebrating Bobby’s life will be held at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO 63129, on Thursday, August 28, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., with a lunch/dinner gathering afterward at the Elk’s Lodge, 1515 Miller Rd, Imperial, MO 63052. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to SVdP Sacred Heart Valley Park Conference, 17 Ann Avenue, Valley Park, MO 63088 at (636) 825-2097.

Bobby will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering sense of duty, and his gift for turning ordinary days into cherished memories. Though his presence will be profoundly missed, his legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

  7. The passing of Bobby is so sad. I was so happy I got to meet and visit him as an adult. His dad and my dad were brothers and his family has meant so much to me. We hadn’t seen each other for many years and finally able to meet up with him two years ago along with his mom, Rose, his stepdad, Brian and Scott. It was such a wonderful teunion! The next year. he and Holly picked me up from the airport and we went to Sikesville for a wonderful reunion. I found out then that Bobby had cancer. I prayed so hard for him, but sometimes God has a way to call someone home. He is with his dad and brother now. So hard to be left behind. I pray for all that loved him and that his memory lives on in each of our hearts.

  8. The passing of Bobby is so sad. I’ve known him since we were children as he was a first cousin. Our dad’s were brothers. Each year my family would go back to Granite City and the whole Ottinger family would be together. Those years are very much a part of me. Many years went by and as my family moved a lot, so I didn’t see Bobby until two years ago and it was so nice to be reacquainted as adults. He was always the sweetrlest and kindest boy and was still that way. The next year heand Holly picked me up at the airport and we drove to Sikeston together to a family reunion. He was so sweet, but I had found out then he had cancer. I prayed so hard for his recovery but God had different plans. Bobby I so pray that your Dad and brother were there to meet you. You are now pain free. My sympathy goes to Aunt Rose and to Brian and Scott. Keep his memory alive as he will live in your hearts forever. May God bless you all.

    • Thank you, Debi. He always enjoyed the visits with your family. With 11 children, it was sorta total chaos at times, but memories that have lasted decades. I wouldn’t change a thing. Oreo cookies and milk for breakfast!
