Pasetti, Cav. Armondo

Armando Leopoldo Pasetti was fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on December 24, 2020. He was 96 years old. Beloved husband for 67 years of the late Evelina Pasetti; dear father of Angela Pasetti Holland (Bill), the late Vivian Pasetti, Lorenza Pasetti, and Carla Pasetti (Joseph Menetre). Loving grandfather of Gregory Holland (Elise), Garrett Holland (Meghan), Gabrielle Holland Abel (Daniel), Derek Depke, Daniela Walker (Miles), Deanna Depke (Enea Gigli), Giorgia Menetre, August Menetre and 10 great grandchildren: Patrick, Evelyn, Margaret, William, Ellie, Olivia, Daniel, Mason, Logan and Vivian. He is also survived by many relatives in Italy.

Born in San Martino Dall’Argine, Italy on June 20, 1924. He emigrated to the United States in 1938 to help his uncles, John Volpi and Gino Pasetti, with their business, the John Volpi Company, makers of fine Italian specialty meats. After serving honorably in the US Army he returned to the company as a junior partner. He married Evelina, the love of his life, on September 27, 1952 in Cremona, Italy. She joined her husband here in 1953.

Together they raised 4 daughters and built a successful family business. Volpi Foods grew and became nationally known for its salame and prosciutto.

Armando was impassioned about his business. He was not only an icon in the Hill community but was also recognized nationally and internationally. He was a member of the PBM of the Hill, the Italian Club of St. Louis, Italiano Per Piacere and the Crusader’s Club. He was awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award from his hometown of San Martino, Italy and was honored by the Italian government with the Order of Cavaliere, the Italian Knighthood. The Order of Merit for Labour or Ordine al Merito del Lavoro) was founded as a national order of chivalry in 1923 by King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy. It is awarded to those “who have been singularly meritorious” in their craft. Members of this honorary order use the title Cavaliere del lavoro.

He received many other accolades over the years including being featured on The Food Network. He was friends to many chefs / restauranteurs and cited in many Italian cookbooks.

Armando was a devoted family man. He adored his grandchildren and treasured his great grandchildren creating a loving legacy for generations to come.

Visitation Wednesday December 30 at 9:30, Mass at 10:30 at Saint Raphael the Archangel Church, 6047 Bishops Place, 63109. Mass will be live streamed to the parish website. Look for the YouTube link by choosing the “View Daily Mass” option.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mercy Hospice South or Operation Food Search. A service of KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL.

  7. Our families have known each other since I was a small girl. Armando was always the same, a very good and hardworking family man. With each encounter we were greeted with a big loving smile and firm handshake and when he spoke it was with sincerity and real interest. Our prayers to the all the family.
