In Loving Memory

Pettit, Carol J.

Carol J. Pettit, 89, of Festus, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. She attended Normandy High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. She received an AA from Monmouth College and attended nursing school at Deaconess where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. She continued her education and later earned her BSNM from Tarkio College. Carol married Robert (Bob) in June of 1956 and is the beloved mother of Vickie, Tracy, and Penny. Carol and Bob lived briefly in Germany while Bob served in the U.S. Army. After returning to the U.S., Carol dedicated her life to her family and her career in emergency nursing. She was highly respected and well regarded by the doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, administrative staff, and management alike. She quickly moved into various stages of nurse management, from Head Nurse to Nurse Manager to Director of the ER. Much later in her career, she moved from emergency nursing to Hospital Supervisor RN in Nursing Administration. Her nursing career spanned over 50 years working at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital North and South/Metropolitan Hospital/Deaconess Hospital/Des Peres Hospital. She also worked for St Louis State Hospital where she taught psych for two years at the beginning of her career.

Carol was a founding member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) St Louis chapter, and a member of the Des Peres Rotary Club.

She loved everything St Louis. She was a huge Cardinals and Blues fan. She loved late night trips to Ted Drewes, dining out, live shows at the Fox Theatre and The Muny at Forest Park, and when she was able, she never missed a parade! She enjoyed traveling, especially the annual family trip to Destin. She lived fully, laughed often, and touched the hearts of so many.

She is survived by her three daughters, Vickie (Gary), Tracy, and Penny (Dave, deceased); her five grandchildren, Kristin, Brandon (Heather), Jaime (Jeremy), Jodie (Shawn), and Todd (Samantha); and eight great-grandchildren, Mason Theodore, Ella, Drew, Charlie, Riley, Kinley, Mason, and Will.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her son-in-law Dave, her parents Howard and Alta, her sister Ann, and her brother-in-law, Mel.

Services: Visitation will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 1:00 – 4:00 at Kutis Funeral Home on Lemay Ferry. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Missouri Humane Society or Stray Rescue of St Louis.
We love and miss you and you are forever in our hearts.
