Firstborn of Edna Roberta (Bettis) and George Scruggs Pryor; sister to Zelda Lovelace, who preceded her in death, George (Marlene) Pryor, Norman Pryor, who preceded in her death and Claudia Gold. Widow of Justin Savage and Norman Phillips. Mother of infant son, Michael lost at birth. Dear aunt to Paul and David Pryor, Bill Lovelace, Mallory Basham, Jodi and Sean Gold, great aunt to Kianna Kelly and Kylie Gibney and great, great aunt, Sister-in-law to Helen Phillips and dear aunt to Jerry and Mary Helen Phillips. Adopted Mother of everyone she encountered who needed to experience love. Child of God.
Millie was a very proud woman of grace and dignity. She had a quick wit, fiery, feisty, personality and dealt in truth. Always. She was an entertainer, a storyteller and her heart overflowed with kindness, caring and love for others. She was a gracious hostess, wonderful cook, manager and organizer. Her determination and spunk were unparalleled. She had a flare for style, and abundant beauty both inside and out, She had an early career in the pioneer days television with The Cricket and Millie Show. She had a long career working for the Catholic diocese of Belleville, serving three consecutive Bishops, managing their home, preparing and hosting their official dinners. Following her Lord Jesus every step of the way. Her faith in Jesus was an inspiration to many. She helped countless people to find the peaceful love of Chirst, in her own very concrete, non judgmental ways.
Mildred passed peacefully in her home just as she wished after her 98th birthday. There will be a memorial service at Epiphany Lutheran Church (4045 Holly Hills Blvd) in South st. Louis , her most recent church family, Saturday June 24 at 10:00 AM with a luncheon to follow. A service of KUTIS AFFTON Chapel.
Mildred was a woman of tremendous faith and kindness. I consider her a wonderful link to my service as Bishop of Belleville. She was wise and humble. I will miss her gentle ways of inviting people to prayer and trust in God. Wilton Cardinal Gregory.
