  2. Dear Sharon and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I was so lucky to work with him and know you all for all these years. When he spoke about people he admired, he often mentioned “constancy “ as one one the highest values. I am thinking now of how true that was of him. John was a great friend who always had a ready smile, a willing ear, a cup of coffee and a seat at the table to offer you. That and his love for you, his family and friends were constants . With much love to all.

  4. My deepest condolences for Sharon and Family, I am saddened by John’s passing and I know this is devastating for all. John was always nice to me, he would always smile and give me a hug as Sharon would pinch my cheeks every Sunday, I was just home a few months ago and received the exact same treatment as I have from many many years, from being a kid to adulthood. I also remember John giving me a few cans of tennis balls when I was a kid, I can’t remember why, don’t know if I asked for them but I can say, to this day and it has been over 40 years since, those tennis balls were one of the best gifts I’ve ever received, to me John was already an Angel, he just received his wings. I have nothing but great memories of John and I know the next time I’m back in St Louis and go to morning mass on Sunday, I will definitely miss John’s greeting, the smile and hug that I have received since as long as I can remember. My heart and prayers go out to the family

  5. Sharon,

Sandy and I are so saddened by the news of John’s passing. John was such a wonderful, fun and caring person. I have such fond memories when I started at the Public Defender’s office and shared an office cubicle with John. He was an inspiring mentor and friend. More recently, John and I would catch up with each other and share stories of our families in the parking lot of Dierbergs, or perhaps at Lowe’s. It seems like we were always running into each other, and I always savored those moments. I know how proud he was to be a father and grandfather, as well as a husband. When we would chat on the parking lot, John always talked about you and how you were looking to babysit that young child again as your grandchildren had grown older. We had just seen each other probably a week before his passing and talked about your new babysitting gig. I have been so fortunate to have met John all those years ago, and to have maintained contact throughout the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

  8. Our sincere condolences to Sharon and the Putzel family and all who knew John. He has surely touched the lives of a lot of people and his memory will live on in our hearts. I have fond memories of John as a kid when we would see him at our family reunions. Looking back I remember John as a kind-hearted family man. He was a close cousin and friend to my Dad and he was very much admired for his great personality and his pure heart.

Our thoughts are with you at this difficult and emotional time.

    Warm regards,
Jennifer (O’Brien), Steven & Erik Wellink

  10. So sorry to learn of John’s recent passing (ironically on a trip to St. Louis November 12-17!). We were friends from Notre Dame days who had LONG ago sadly lost touch. Nancy and I send our sincere condolences to Sharon and family. May John rest in peace now.

  11. I just saw now saw John’s obituary on line and though it is now mid-February I wish to send my condolences to John’s family and friends. I had the good fortune to work with John at the Public Defender’s office and briefly later in private practice. John was devoted to his family and to the law. He was unfailingly kind and thoughtful to colleagues and an expert practitioner. We have lost touch as happens, but he is fondly remembered. Peace be with all who knew him and share this loss.
