James Thomas Reckart, 87, went home to Jesus on December 24th. Beloved husband of Shirley for 38 years. Dearest father of Tim Reckart (Donna), dearest stepfather of Ken (Marcia) and Jim Kurz (Amy). Dearest Grandfather to Emily Schenewerk (Jordan) Matthew Kurz, Kaitlyn Kurz, Jacob Kurz, Nicole Grobe, Stephanie Lutzen (Danny), and Kacie. Dearest Great Grandfather of Hailey, Paisley, Reghan, Alexa, Sawyer, Liiam, Ameliia, Landon.
Tom loved spending time with his wife and family. Most Sundays were spent with the family enjoying a cold beer and dinner. Later in life, Tom’s favorite beverage was a cold root beer – no ice. Tom was an avid fisherman, bowler, and pool player. He loved to play pool with his friends and family. He taught his grandson, Matt, how to play pool and eventually gave up attempting to teach his granddaughters and stepson how to play. Tom loved driving his Lincoln Town Car and described the ride as smooth.
He will be sorely missed by everyone.

To the Kurz and Reckart families, I met Tom on few occasions when I was over visiting his step-sons Ken and Jim. Tom was so kind to me and always a smile. I will be thinking of all of you and Tom. The world gives us fleeting moments to be together I am so happy he had you all.
You will be missed, Tom. I’m so glad I was able to watch you enjoy the liver and onions I cooked when I was there just a few weeks ago. I loved seeing the smile on your face that night! Love you!!
Tom, Shirley and I called ourselves the the “Old Poops” Shirley being the “Poopete” and leader of our many trips together. My wife Kathy was alive when we started our few days at Pere Marquette stopping enroute for several Buds while sitting on a log while waving at tug boats along the Illinois River. After Kathy died we continued to hike the trails at the lodge and later laa as yet Tom would stay back guarding the beer box while Shirley and I hiked (and getting lost) at times. Beer cooler was always a little lighter when we found our way back! Many fond memories of our many trips to sword show over the years. Loved our Ozark fishing trips and feasting on fried crappy once back home. Ah yes, memories survive! Peace, old timer!
Shirley and Andy, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Loved seeing you and Tom, both always smiling. I will always remember Tom when he would call after something on our side of the Woodford family had a change such as me having a new grandchild saying, Kathy, you did not call me with the new information. He was so good with updates to Grandma and Grandpa Woodford’s family information! Tom will be missed!
