In Loving Memory

Rogers, Eva Ilene

77, of St. Peters, MO, and most recently of Leavenworth, KS passed away on November 29th, 2016 in Overland Park, KS, after battling vascular dementia following strokes.  She was surrounded by loved ones when she was called home.

Eva was born in St. Louis, MO to Ervin William and Bessie Ellen Blake on January 5th, 1939.  She accepted Christ and was born again through believer’s baptism at Lafayette Park Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO.  She graduated from McKinley High School in 1956.

Eva married her lifelong love, Paul Eugene Rogers, on May 14th, 1958 in a private ceremony at Lafayette Park Baptist Church, and remained married, and very much in love, for over 55 years until (and beyond) her husband’s passing January 11th, 2014.

Eva was an extraordinarily hard worker, and took her first job at 15 years old, at a shoe store, and before graduating high school, had secured a factory job, where she would later meet her future husband. Eva had many jobs over the years, to include becoming a Real Estate Broker, and owning her own real estate business (Select Real Estate), but the job which would become her life’s career was her work as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service.  She retired from St. Peters Post Office in 1999 at 30 years of service.

Eva claimed no personal organizational connections after High School, but found joy in volunteering (and being volunteered) for adult leadership positions in her children’s pursuits. She was a Den Mother to her son’s Cub Scout Troop, contributed as an active and invaluable member of the Mother’s Club for St. Charles Chapter, Order of DeMolay, and served as Treasurer of the Bethel Guardian Council of Bethel #40 (of St. Charles) of Job’s Daughters International.  Even in the final months of her life, when certain details and memories escaped her grasp, she found joy in sharing and promoting the Masonic youth organizations because of the fond memories she retained of those times she shared with her children.  Eva was caring, kind, generous, and smart, and she always thought of others before herself.  Above all, she was a devoted Mother and Grandmother with a love that could not be measured, defined, or even stopped by death.  Her love lives on within us.

Eva is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin William and Bessie Ellen Blake, and her beloved husband, Paul Eugene Rogers. She is also preceded by her brother-in-law, Robert Garner, her nephew Robert Garner, Jr. and her nephew by marriage, Donald Metzler.

She is survived by her son, Paul Bartley Rogers (and wife, Melissa) and her daughter, Theresa Lynn (Rogers) Smead (and husband, Christopher); her sister, Verna Mae (Blake)Garner, and her brother Kenneth Ervin Blake (and wife, Mary); her granddaughters Grace Evanne Smead and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Rogers, and grandsons Lawson Wesley Smead and Lucas Hutson Rogers; her nieces Cheryl Ann (Garner) Metzler, and Robyn Erin (Blake) Clegg (and husband, Adam); her nephews John Joseph (Jay) Kennedy III, and William Bryan Blake. She is also survived by her grand-nieces Amanda (Metzler) Dorrah (and husband, Justin), Sarah (Metzler) Zenthoefer (and husband, Jesse), Hailey, Carmen and Jade Clegg; and her great grand-nephews Landon and Declan Dorrah.

Memorials may be made to DeMolay International in her name at https://demolay.org/donations-2/  The Rogers and Smead families wish to extend our sincere thanks to the medical professionals and caregivers who assisted in preserving Mom’s health, to include Dr. Valerie Duff, of Lansing, KS, Dr. Deetra Ford of Overland Park, KS, Beka Hill of Leavenworth, KS, and the caring staff of Garden Terrace at Overland Park in Overland Park, KS.

Services: Memorial visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Road, Saturday January 21, 2-6 PM with funeral service at 5:00 pm.
