Alan Rudolph Obit 1

In Loving Memory

Rudolph, Alan David

January 13, 1949 - July 3, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alan David Rudolph, age 76, on July 3, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan James and Shirley Rudolph; his brother-in-law, Richard C. McBride, Sr. Alan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Jeanne Rudolph (née Stepka), his children Christine Dolan (John), Lisa Randazzo (Gus Sanchez) and David Rudolph (Stacey); his grandchildren, Johnny, Andy, Anthony and Sophia; brother, Mark Rudolph (Kathy); sister-in-law; Margaret (Peg) McBride; brother-in-law, Gary Stepka; long-time friend and adopted son, Wm. Matthew Pagano. Alan was a loving uncle to six nieces and nephews, and had a special relationship with his nephew, Tony Rudolph.

Alan was a native St. Louisan and proud graduate of St. John Vianney High School. He was thrilled that his son and grandson continued his legacy as fellow Griffins. He loved nothing more than watching his grandson, Anthony, play Vianney soccer.

A devoted public servant, Alan dedicated 37 years to law enforcement where he retired as Sergeant from the Webster Groves Police Department. Alan spent many years picking up extra shifts and working secondary security jobs to provide for his family and ensure that his children received a private Catholic education.

Known by many as a “cop’s cop,” Alan earned the respect of colleagues, and the admiration of all who had the privilege of serving alongside him, His mentorship was invaluable to younger officers, including his son, Dave, who followed in his footsteps. He led by example, always the first to respond, last to leave, and never one to seek recognition.

In his “retirement” he had the privilege of working with Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson and The Honorable Lorne Baker.

Alan leaves behind a legacy of honor and grit. He was a man of quiet strength and deep values. He believed in doing the right thing, even when it was hard. He lived a life of purpose and service and will be forever missed by those who loved him.

Alan was a good friend to have while growing up at Saint Michaels. We played softball together for many years under the coaching guidance of his father (that I recall, Alan played second base to my shortstop); we were Cub Scouts together under the vigil eye and assistance of his mom, as our den mother…With lots of meetings in the basement of their home. All wonderful and enriching memories.

  9. Jeanne,
So sorry for your loss. I will really miss AL and talking to him. I really thought a lot of him and his sense of duty to the community. I still remember when you and Al were dating and you and Prggy decided to take me to the Zoo,
Al went along. You will always miss him, but it will get easier with time. I count you and your family and Peg and Gary among my “special cousins”. I may not say much at first but I think about many different things all the time. Love cousin Jayne
