Savoldi, Irene C. (nee Fels)

Irene Catherine Savoldi, born Irene Catherine Fels June 2, 1935, to loving parents Edward and Pauline Fels (née Steck). She peacefully passed away on October 28, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Angelo Savoldi, as well as her mother, Pauline Fels (nee Steck), and father, Edward Fels. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn King (née Fels) and her five beloved children, Edward, Brenda (James) Powers, Jennifer Elliott, Dennis, and Paul. Irene will be remembered as a caring and devoted grandmother to Jason (Mary), Steven, William, Elizabeth (John), Corin, and Hannah. She also leaves behind a legacy as a great-grandmother to Alexandrea, Mark, Brendan, Aria, Andi, Jack, Anastasia, and Noah.

Throughout Irene’s life her heart overflowed with love and devotion for others. Her greatest passion in life was Scouting. She dedicated many years to the organization, starting as a Cub Scout Den Mother and eventually becoming a Scout Master for several Troops, including Troop 52 at New Covenant United Methodist Church. Irene’s love for crafting, camping, cooking, and hiking was shared deeply with her 5 children, as well as the many boys and girls she mentored throughout her life. Her Scouts affectionately called her Toots. She was a merit badge counselor and attended long-term camp until the age of 83! Irene’s fundraising efforts were tireless, and she spent countless hours working at Busch Stadium or under a BBQ tent. She was honored to be elected into the Order of the Arrow and witnessed six of her scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. Irene’s dedication was recognized with the prestigious Silver Beaver award, one of Boy Scouting’s highest honors.

Not only did Irene contribute to the Boy Scouts, but she also served as a Girl Scout Leader, nurturing her daughters’ love for the outdoors and camping. Summers with the family were spent tent-camping at St. Francois State Park, even after cramped car rides to get there, many cherished memories were made.

Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her role as Scout leader as she selflessly devoted her time to volunteering at Woodward Public School as a reading and math tutor. Her dedication and compassion were admired by both students and staff.

Irene cherished spending time with her family, sharing recipes, playing games, and creating lasting memories. Among her many hobbies she was fascinated with her family genealogy and spent many hours tracing her family history all the way back to the 1400s. She enjoyed attending performances at the Muny, playing bingo, and sharing captivating stories of her life and adventures. She had an invaluable talent for finding unique gifts for her loved ones and embarked on many creative pursuits throughout her life. She enjoyed needlepoint, crochet, and painting. Irene designed personalized paintings for each family member, leaving behind cherished keepsakes as a reminder of her love and thoughtfulness. Her artistic abilities extended beyond crafting as she had a knack for baking and decorating cakes which led her to attend a cake decorating competition in Hawaii.

Irene attended St. John’s for Grade School and High School. In her professional life, Irene worked as a supervisor at Directory Distributing in St. Louis for many years.

Irene’s journey was guided by a deep and enduring faith, which instilled in her a sense of humility, gratitude and respect for all. She found solace and community at New Covenant United Methodist Church, where she worshiped.

Irene Catherine Savoldi will be remembered as a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many through her selflessness, love for Scouting, and dedication to her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known her.

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Thursday, November 9 from 5-9 pm. with Funeral Service on Friday, November 10 at 10:00 am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
