In Loving Memory

Schaeffer, Alan E.

August 26, 1931 - July 27, 2025

Alan E Schaeffer, age 93, passed away on July 27, 2025. Loving husband of the late Marian Schaeffer (nee: Basich) for 67 years. Beloved father of Donald (Mary) Schaeffer, Cynthia (Doug) Hebenstreit and Daniel (and the late Lucy) Schaeffer; loving grandfather of 6, great-grandfather of 10 and great-great-grandfather of 4. Dear son of the late Herman and Louise Schaeffer. Dear brother of the late Adele (Otto) Castens, Milton (Shirley) Schaeffer, Norman (June) Schaeffer. Dear uncle, cousin and friend to many. Special friend to Mary Dobbins.
Alan enlisted in the military in 1951. Reached the rank of Sergeant in the Marine Corps and was discharged in 1957. Alan was very proud of his time in the Marine Corps and proudly displayed his Korean Veteran designation on his door. Especially enjoyed his Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC.
Alan married his wife, Marian, on July 4, 1954 while home on leave. After leaving the military, he furthered his education by attending and graduating from Washington University while raising a young family and working at the same company, Laclede Gas, his entire career. After a fruitful career in various positions throughout his tenure, he retired at age 62 as industrial and commercial sales manager. He developed close friendships with his fellow Laclede Gas co- workers and enjoyed meeting at monthly get togethers years beyond his retirement.
Alan and his wife Marian were devote Catholics and members of St. Martin of Tours parish for 70+ years. Family was raised and friends were made at St. Martin’s. Alan was born and raised in Lemay Missouri. He raised his family in Lemay. Lemay was home from growing up on Horn Ave. to owning his first home on Nannette Circle to building his home on Telford Dr. Oh, the memories of a wonderful life he built for his wife and family!

  1. He was loved by many & he will be missed. We enjoyed his last 4. Years together… he always wanted to go somewhere & not be left out. He acted younger than his age. I was privileged to know & be with him… rest in peace my friend… Mary Dobbins
