Sebourn, Mark Lane

 

Mark Lane Sebourn, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Mercy Hospital South, at the age of 68.

Mark was born on December 26, 1956, in St. Louis, MO. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mary “Mitzi” Linda (Shoults) and Morris “Kayo” Lamar Sebourn Jr., as well as his grandparents, Edna Mavies and Morris Lamar Sebourn Sr.

Mark was a lifelong public servant, dedicating his career to protecting and serving his community in many different rolls. He served as a St. Louis City Marshall, a police officer for NGA, and a training supervisor for Service Source. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1975. On November 8, 1986, he married Loretta Jennings. The youngest daughter of the late A. Howard and Barbara Jean (Vargo) Jennings. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend.

After graduating high school, Mark enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a Specialist 4 in the U.S. Armored Cavalry Regiment stationed in Germany. He served with distinction and honor receiving many qualifications. He was an active member of the Civil War Roundtable St. Louis. Mark enjoyed classic rock and classic movies. He liked dancing with his wife and daughter (quite the dancer). He loved dining out with his family and exploring new restaurants. Mark was very proud to be from St. Louis. He was a sports fan who cheered on the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues and Battle Hawks.  Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. He had a deep love for animals, treasuring his childhood pets, cats, and granddogs. He was an avid reader, able to devour books at an incredible pace while retaining every detail. He also enjoyed writing. A true trivia master, he had a particular passion for U.S. military history, where his knowledge was unmatched.

He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; daughter, Emily, and her husband, Josh Marshall; and their daughter, Aurora, who was the light of Mark’s life. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Monica and Dean Combs; niece and nephew, Miranda and Matt Keiser, and their children, Falynn, Beau, and Andi; Aunt and Uncle, Sharon and Bill Pipe, and their children, Kathleen Van Horn, Tricia and Eric Burns, and David and Dana Pipe. He also leaves behind sister in-law and brother in-law, Regina and Duane Horton, along with many other relatives and friends.

Mark will be greatly missed, leaving his mark on the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd on Friday, May 9, 2025, 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Burial to immediately follow at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Hootie’s Rescue Haven, and Veterans Community Project – St. Louis.

Mark’s family would like to thank the paramedics, nurses, doctors, therapists, and all who assisted with their services and support over the last few years.

  1. So sorry to hear this news. Such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and patriot. He was so kind and thoughtful with Andy as they shared their respective military experiences. May the memories you shared bring you comfort and peace.
