In Loving Memory

Sevcik, Carol A.

Carol A. Sevcik (nee Buetterhorn), of Oakville, died Friday October 22, 2021

Carol was born July 28, 1937 to Albert and Stella Buetterhorn.  Carol grew up in north St. Louis with her brother Leo.  They enjoyed Church, homemade fried chicken, bingo, and cake walks and were showered with love from her parents, and  extended family.  Family life included  Eddie and Helen Stiller,  Annie Karczewski.. Albert and Stella’s close family friend Agnus Stanczek used to take Carol on weekends with her girlfriends used to take Carol for trips in high school making her feel like a young adult.  Their daughter Elaine is still a part of the family.

Carol married the love of her life, Albert Sevcik, on September, 10, 1955.  Al and Carol were best friends, loved spending time together and loved to travel together, taking trips to the beach, or to the farm, and on special occasions going on cruises. But it was the day to day activities that made them so special: taking walks and spending time together any way they could. Al always commented that it was Carol’s love, the love of a good woman that made him who he was.  Al and Carol had (3) children, Tim, Brad & Lori & were devoted parents and moved to Oakville in 1968. They loved going to baseball, soccer, softball games & gymnastics meets and would hang out for hours with their friends after games. Carol was a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Oakville and a room mother at Point Elementary.   Carol’s family were among the founding members of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church.

Al & Carol became grandparents to 9 kids:  Zack & Zeke (Brad & LeAnn), Christopher, Nicholas & Alaina (Tim & Kathy) and Kyle, Ryan, Eric & Alex (Lori & Paul Sheahan.) Al & Carol loved spending time with the grandchildren as well as Brad & Leann, Lori & Paul, Tim & Kathy. They had a special “cousins” day with the grandkids which included trips to a playground and a special place named Crown Candy.

They loved celebrating Christmas with family, and both the kids and grandkids had a special in person visit from Santa Claus.  The family gatherings included Carol’s brother Leo (Buetterhorn), his wife Audrey and their daughter Judy.  Al’s brother Ed, his wife Virginia and daughter Stacy also got to see Santa. Carol kept in close contact with the Narekiewicz relatives from Boston who made surprise visits.  She stayed close with Anne Ruggerio/Narekiewicz.

Carol loved winery’s, going to the farm, and going out to eat, BBQ & home cooked meals. When in town, they rarely missed a grandchild’s soccer, baseball, or other sports event or any chance to spend time with their family.

Carol had many jobs, but her favorite was working for the Missouri Humanities Council where she managed the Speakers Bureau and made many lifetime friends. Her co-workers commented that Carol was always happy and it was a better day when she was in the office.  She also kept in touch with special friends such as Ralph and Nancy Kamp, and Mary Ellen Steiert, Del and Bob Harrison, and Nick and Nieda Moore.

Al passed away in 2009 and Carol was resilient. She became part of “Life after Loss” and “Wings” groups at Queen of All Saints that helped lift her up into the next phase of her life and developed many new friendships. Her friends commented how dedicated Carol was to Wings. Friends commented how Carol always kept a positive attitude despite everything, how courageous she was and what a fighter she was. When health reasons made Wings too much to handle, she worked with her friends, prayed, and was determined to ensure Wings lived on.

Carol carried on her tradition of going to Casinos and bingo with her friends and took trips with her family and friends. She learned to love new sports and was seen frequently at high school events. Carol loved going on walks & drives with Brad, wineries with Tim, and having dinner or a family dinner with Lori.

Carol had a strong faith and died in God’s loving hands on Friday, October 22nd.  She was deeply loved and will be missed by all.

Memorial Visitation at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, Saturday October 30, 9:15 a.m. until Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Queen of All Saints St. Vincent de Paul Society appreciated. Kutis South County service.

  1. She was the best aunt and godmother. I will miss you very much especially our text during baseball season. I am so glad we got to spend quality time with her at the winery. It meant so much to me how close her and I got in the last few years but I still think She loved Jason more than me. I have such great memories as a child especially at Christmas. But my favorite memory will always be us going to Red Rock Canyon and it poured down rain. Still makes me smile when I think about it. So many memories to cherish forever.

Your folks welcomed me into their home and lives with warmth and love. Al and Carol were amazing hosts! They treated me like royalty. Ma loved the back and forth surprise visits between her and Carol throughout the years. Growing up, it was always a treat to learn we’d received a letter “from Cousin Carol in St. Louis”. I loved our lunches together and the fact she cared so much to offer her wisdom and advice to me. Carol shared things about my mother with me, adding to my memories. I’m going to miss her so much.
