Martha S. “Suzie” Simpson (Fessel) was born to Casper and Dorothy Fessel January 17, 1939 in New Albany, IN. She earned a Bachelor’s in Business Education from Hanover College, Hanover, IN. She spent many fulfilling years in education at Bishop DuBourg High School, working in teaching and administrative roles. She sponsored student activities and loved working with students.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald B. “Dutch” Simpson and older sister Betty L. Hinton (Fessel) of Louisville, KY, her cat Punky and her dog Buddy. She is survived by her two children, Matthew L. Simpson and Christa D. Simpson of the home; her younger sister, Shirley A. Fessel of Kansas City, MO, four nieces and two nephews. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and colleagues.

Aunt Suzie was a proud wife, mother, and friend! She always praised me on raising beautiful children. I’m glad I was able to see her a couple times these past couple years. You’ll be missed! Our condolences to the Simpson/Fessel family’s! Love, The Crockett’s
Dear Aunt Suzie, you were a cherished sister, aunt, wife and mother. You were a very strong woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew you. May you be with Uncle Don, your mother, father and sister in Heaven. I am sure Buddy and Punky greeted you at the Rainbow Bridge! I will miss getting all of the greeting cards you would send, and of course, our emails.

Mrs. Simpson was simply one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Her style and unwavering passion for teaching students has stayed with me since I met her some 40 years ago. Mrs. Simpson, you had a lasting impact on my accounting career, and I know I am not alone saying so as many others were also blessed to have learned from you. May your spirit rest in peace and your friends and family find comfort.
Martha was a wonderful friend and a great co-worker and department chairperson. She was patient and understanding. There is no way she can be replaced in my heart. My thoughts go out to her family and children. She loved that little cat Punky and so understood when I lost my kitty Sweetie Baby. It will be impossible for people to understand what she did for so many. May she finally Rest In Peace. Heaven in brighter today.
Martha was a dear friend and co-worker. She was caring and considerate. She was a real asset to Bishop DuBourg High School and most supportive to me as her associate Principal and colleague. I will miss her e-mails to me over the years upon her and my retirement. My wife and I will miss her and keep her in our prayers.
Aunt Suzie will be dearly missed. She was a dedicated, loving mother to her family, devoted to her students, and friend that always enjoyed the rare opportunities we had to visit. May she rest in peace with Don and all of the family that arrived in Heaven before her. My sincere condolences to her family and friends left behind.
Martha was an outstanding teacher who worked so hard at helping her students aim for success. She cared deeply for her students and faculty of Bishop DuBourg High School. She took great pride in the Alumni who frequently came back to visit and share their personal and professional successes. I have been blest to have taught with her and call her friend.
My sister Suzie had a lasting impression on my growing up. She and Betty our older sister showed me examples of independence and service. She was an accepting presence during my marriage and while my kids were growing up. We swapped stories of working in education. Although 6 years my senior, we still had common pleasures in flowers, birds and travel. I am grateful she has made a last journey to the peaceful home God has made for her.
