In Loving Memory

Sladek, Mary Carol (nee Dees)

April 15, 1959 - August 12, 2025

Mary Carol Sladek (née Dees), 66, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Mary was the embodiment of unconditional love. She always showed up—for every game, every school play, every milestone, and every quiet moment when someone just needed her there. Her presence was a steady anchor for her family, a source of comfort, laughter, and encouragement no matter the circumstances.

Nobody was a stranger to Mary. She had the gift of gab and a heart that made everyone feel welcomed—like they were an old friend, even if they had just met. She was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation anywhere and leave people smiling, feeling lighter just for having crossed her path.

She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Sladek Sr., and the proud mother of Jennifer Lewis (Scott), Michelle Wideman (Matthew), Robert Telle, Steven Telle (Katie), Joseph Telle Jr. (Dana), Ashley Telle (Brian Krzyzanowski), Stacie Payeur (Nick), Kenneth Sladek Jr. (Madison), and Kaylee Boschert (Jake).

Her love extended to her cherished grandchildren—Justin Lewis (Stephanie), Jacob, Luthien, Bodhi, Elden, Macy, Layla Fay, Layla Kay, Matilda, Zoey, Peyton, Josephine, Sadie, Ada, Daisy, Lily, Leo, Jack, and Baby Girl Sladek—as well as her great-grandchildren, Kara and Hayden. To each of them, she was not just “Grandma” or “Great-Grandma,” but a constant source of warmth and joy.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Norma Dees; she is survived by her sister Kathy, Donna, Robert, Debbie and David.

She was the favorite aunt of numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces.

Mary believed “Love grew in small spaces”. She created a home where love was abundant, laughter was frequent, and there was always room for one more at the table.

SERVICES:  Visitation Sunday, August 17, 12:00 NOON until 3:00 p.m. at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois Road Affton, Missouri 63123.  A celebration of Mary’s life will be held August 30th, 2025 at 1:00 at Camp Solidarity. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mary’s memory.

My heart goes out to all of you. It is hard to lose a sibling.. Kenny- Mary always told me how blessed she was to have you in her life. I’m so very sorry for your loss. To all of her children – I am so sorry. – her last comment to me when I asked how you all were doing was “I am very proud of each one of my children.” To her grands and her great grands- you all have one sweetheart of an angel watching over you each day. 9. Kenny and family,
Mary was a gem. Our hearts are so heavy with sadness. She was always sooo fun the life of a party. Always always smiling and so happy to see us no matter how long it had been! In the words of Mary hanging out at Camp Solidarity “I LOVE THIS FUCKING SHIT!!!” Mary will be forever in our hearts and always missed. It will be a different world but her memory will live on.

  10. 17 years ago I was blessed with the best neighbor anyone could ever ask for. Whether I needed a cup of sugar, a babysitter, or friend to talk to and have a beer (or box of wine), Mary was always there. That’s just who she was. Loving, caring, funny, and just a great person. Mary will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.
