In Loving Memory

Sobery, Carson John

November 29, 2011 - October 23, 2023

Carson, age 11, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 23, 2023 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s hospital, St Louis, MO. Carson was born on November 29, 2011 to his mother, Tricia Sobery.

Carson was known to all for his amazing smile, his beautiful blue eyes and his curly red hair. He was advanced and intelligent beyond his years, and sweetly sensitive and kind to others. He loved math, reading and cooking.  He was super excited to be a part of the Lindbergh JV3 Racquetball Team.  Carson was also very involved in the Boy Scouts.  He was a member of LEAP (Lindbergh Eager Achievers Program) and had recently attended space camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

Carson was the dear son of Tricia Sobery; dear grandson of John and Sandra (Baker) Sobery; dear great-grandson of the late Norman “Lucky” & Delores Baker; dear nephew of Doug and Amber Sobery: dear cousin of Lillian Sobery; dear great nephew of John Baker, Don Baker, Barry & Theresa Baker, George & Beverly (Baker) Tomko, Dave & Dana Baker and the late Harry (surviving Eileen) Sobery.  Friend to hundreds, stranger to no one.

Carson was such a special young man that it is said often “everyone needs a Carson in their life”. Through the gift of organ donation, Carson is providing other families a new chance at life.

SERVICES:  Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Road on Monday, October 30, 11:30 a.m.  Interment at St. Paul Churchyard, Affton.  Allergic to Lillies; in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carson to send kids to Scout Camp can be mailed to the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Scouting, at 4568 West Pine Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63108, or online at Memorial & Tribute Gifts | Greater St. Louis Area Scouting (stlbsa.org).” would be greatly appreciated.  Visitation Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.

  1. Carson was a very intelligent, caring man. He was a friend to everyone. As an outstanding Boy Scout, he practiced all the principles that Baden Powell wrote about. God has a great leader. Carson is missed but will be on the right hand of his Heavenly Father!

  7. Carson always treated my son who has autism with absolute loving kindness and with pure joy and cheer. He saw him as a friend and treated him as one at first meeting, which truly impacted my son and his own self-esteem as a Scout. Carson made him feel welcomed, like he belonged, and ensured my son always knew he would be there to help. We paired up last year during scouting for food to pick up the canned goods bags, and Carson and Jedi sat in the back together, hopping out every new block. Every step of the way Carson made sure Jedi felt capable, included, helpful, and had fun during the process. My entire family met Carson throughout our cub scout events, to which all have come up to me at some point and have uttered the same words I’ve always thought about him, “Wow, what an Angel of a child.” It is still true for us- he is truly an Angel, did God’s work while he was here on Earth, and will continue to do God’s work in mysterious ways. I’ll pray and talk to Carson still and believe his spirit is all around us to protect, love, and serve/help us for God’s providence. We all have been touched by an Angel, and I am so blessed and grateful for our sweet moments with Carson and with Carson’s family.

  8. Tricia:
My heart just hurts so, so very much for you. I know sweet Carson was so very special and your bond with him was so sweet. Words just cannot help ease the pain that you are feeling but do know you will be in my thoughts and prayers. He was taken just to insanely early and he had such promise and yes a wonderful smile. Sounds like he enjoyed life. I pray that Jesus, just wraps his arms around you and your family and holds you very tight and provides some sense of comfort. Take care of yourself Tricia. Let others help you cope during the days ahead. God bless and keep you all in his care.

  11. I didn’t know Carson, but my mother-in-law’s visitation at Kutis was on the same day as Carson’s and we just wanted to send our condolences to his mother. My mother-in-law lived a long life with many happy memories and Carson’s life although I am sure was full of happy memories was just beginning with a bright future ahead. My sister, who lost her son about 15 years ago at the age of 13 said that she will never be able to “get over” the loss of her child. However she just tries to get through one day at a time knowing he is now under God’s loving care. Although many times we may not feel loved, God sends us beautiful things every day to show us he still loves us but grief and stress often makes us blind to them. I hope that one of the beautiful things He sends you may give you a some comfort in your grief. We just want you to know that you and Carson are in our prayers.

  12. It’s been a few weeks, but I haven’t been able to express my sympathy in writing to your family because I haven’t been ready to say goodbye for now to a child who was not only a friend to my youngest, but for years was a daily part of my life. You were an example to all who met you on how to live and love like the savior and I know you were called to a greater purpose. Families are forever and I know one day your mom will hold you again. We love you Carson.
