In Loving Memory

Sontag, Maggie (nee Vitale)

November 12, 1948 - March 18, 2025

Maggie Sontag, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist, and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025. Known for her gentle spirit, faithfulness, and boundless love, Maggie leaves behind a legacy of beauty, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit that touched the lives of her family and countless others.

An exceptionally talented artist, Maggie poured her heart into designing and renovating homes alongside her devoted husband, Joe Sontag. Together, they transformed houses into works of art, substantially increasing their value while leaving behind unique spaces for others to cherish. Her vision and craftsmanship were a testament to her passion for creating beauty in the world around her.

Beyond her artistic talents, Maggie was a successful entrepreneur. While raising her children, she co-founded a wallpaper business with her life-long friend, demonstrating her keen business acumen and drive. This venture paved the way for her to become a highly successful realtor and broker, consistently ranking among the top sales agents in her agency. Her entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Maggie was also a self-taught bookkeeper who later co-founded a successful boutique with her daughter and grandson, showcasing her versatility and dedication to new ventures.

Maggie expressed her dynamic Christianity through leading many Bible studies for people of all ages. Her ability to help children understand God’s love for them resulted in many impacted lives, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maggie had an exceptional ability to connect with Christians in the midst of crisis and recovery from emotional distress, possessing a remarkable instinct for imparting grace to those in need.

Family was paramount to Maggie. She not only raised her own children but also lovingly raised several of her grandchildren alongside their parents, treating them as if they were her own. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support created a strong and loving family bond that will be cherished for generations to come.

Maggie is survived by her loving husband, Joseph B. Sontag, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership and love. She also leaves behind her daughter Jacqueline Goff (Joseph), son Joseph D. Sontag (Sarah), daughter Jennifer Sontag, and her cherished grandchildren, Joseph Goff Jr. (Annie), Jessica Goff, Jacob Goff (Jasmine), Todd Rinne (Sarah), Alyssa Hufker (Mike), Joe Sontag (Erica), Maggie Gray, and great-grandchildren Justin Goff, Jaydin Goff, Gracie Goff, Oliver Rinne, Charlie Goff, William Rinne, Journey Goff and Mia Hufker. Her warm smile and deep love for her family will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Maggie’s gentle presence and artistic and entrepreneurial spirit will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the homes she designed, the businesses she built, the family she nurtured, and the love she so freely gave. A private celebration of her life will be held by the family on March 20.

In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

  4. What a loving tribute to Maggie. We met you two about 10 years ago but I considered her one of my dear friends. Our friendship grew through tandem bicycling with The PANTHERS. She was a Christian lady who loved her family and had the love her family returned to her. At the end of the day, what more could one ask for. Rest in Peace dear Maggie.

  7. Joe and family,
Maggie will always have a special place in my heart.
She would often say you guys are crazy, especially when listening to our conversations while riding bikes together or sitting around the breakfast table.
At times I am not sure if she thought about seeking professional help for us or just say more prayers!
Either way, she accepted and tolerated us together several days a week and that is one of the great things I’ll remember about Maggie.
    God Bless and God Speed.
