Matthew Steven “Matt” Thompson passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. While his passing was sudden and deeply heartbreaking, the love of his family surrounded him throughout his life and will continue to carry his memory forward.
Matt was the beloved husband of Angela Thompson and a loving, devoted father to Dylan Thompson (fiancée Trinity Smith) and Lanie Thompson. Being a dad was one of his greatest joys, and he embraced it fully as a role model, protector, coach, and biggest fan. He was an especially proud grandfather to Peyton Thompson, who was born just last month and immediately became the light of his life. Though their time together was far too short, the joy and pride he felt in becoming a grandfather will forever be part of his story. His children carry his lessons with them every day and aspire to live in a way that would make him proud, honoring his strength, humor, and unwavering love.
Matt dedicated many years of his life to his auto body career, where his strong work ethic and skilled hands earned him the respect of coworkers and customers alike. He spent many years at Degel Truck Center, building lasting friendships and a reputation for quality workmanship. In more recent years, he proudly worked as a stagehand with IATSE Local 6. He valued the teamwork, energy, and camaraderie of his union brothers and sisters and took pride in helping bring events and productions to life.
A true sports enthusiast, Matt especially loved cheering on the St. Louis Rams and remained a loyal Rams fan through the years. Whether watching a game or talking sports with friends, his enthusiasm was contagious. He made friends everywhere he went, striking up conversations with ease and leaving people smiling.
Matt loved to laugh and had a natural ability to light up any room he entered. He could turn frowns upside down with a perfectly timed joke, a playful grin, or one of his unforgettable one-liners. Music was one of his greatest passions. He loved singing, dancing, and bringing energy to any gathering. He had an incredible ear and could break down almost any song, talking about the rhythm, the lyrics, and what made it meaningful. It was something he truly enjoyed and something that brought him peace and excitement at the same time. He enjoyed hosting family barbecues, standing by the grill, telling stories, and making sure everyone had a full plate and a reason to smile. For Matt, family time was everything.
He was the dear brother of Christine Voiles and was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Joan Thompson, and his brother, Carl “Butch” Thompson. The values instilled by his parents, kindness, loyalty, hard work, and love for family, guided him throughout his life.
Matt will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated for his laughter, his loyalty, and the joy he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
