In Loving Memory

Wania, Philomena A.

Philomena A. (Kustra) Wania joined her loved ones in heaven on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the age of 98. Daughter of the late Stanley and Rose Kustra. Beloved wife to the late Thaddeus Wania; dearest mother of the late Christine McKinley (Jack), Rita Wania, and James Wania; dear grandmother to Kevin McKinley, Karen McKinley (Nick Burgett), Misti McKinley (Patrick Hamel), Michael McKinley, and Keith McKinley (Sabrina). Great Grandmother to Connor McKinley, Natalie McKinley, Jack McKinley, Dominic McKinley, and Lucas McKinley; Sister of the late Joseph Kustra (Helen), John Kustra (Catherine), and Walter Kustra (Loretta); dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Philomena proudly shared her Polish heritage with everyone. She lost her husband in 1981 and never dated or remarried, she was married to “her hubby” for life. After losing her husband she moved in with her daughter, son-in-law, and five grandchildren, she said it kept her young. Philomena was kind to everyone and very committed to her Catholic faith. Known for her sweet tooth, she never turned down a dessert. She was sweet and beautiful inside and out. After losing her daughter, Christine, she put her faith and trust in letting her grandkids take care of her as she once cared for them.

  1. As the son of Walter and Loretta Kustra, I still remember visiting my grandmother when, if my memory serves me correctly, Aunt Phil and Uncle Ted, lived in the upstairs apartment with Grandma below and Uncle John and Aunt Kate on the other side.

Darlene Kustra reminded me recently that I was ring bearer at Aunt Phil and Uncle Ted’s wedding and she was the flower girl.

So many fond memories of Aunt Phil, a gracious and kind person who took an interest in her family around her. May she Rest in Peace.

  5. I have wonderful memories of growing up with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Aunt Phil is my longest living and last aunt. She always had a smile and was always happy. I have a picture of Aunt Phil and Uncle Ted with me as her flower girl along with my cousin Bob as the ring bearer. And, of course, many pictures of celebrating all the holidays with the family.
She was so faithful to her big brother, Joe(my dad). After he had a stroke my cousin Chris would bring her mom(AuntPhil) and her children to visit him regularly. It made him so happy.
My condolences to her entire family. She lives on in our memories.

Je fought in Europe, France,Belgium and lived in East-Germany.?! My father is a Dutch war prisoner from the German’s. After war he lived for some months’ in Merseburg and Rossla were he met your uncle. He took veey good care of our father. They became good friends. I have a picture from both in june 1945. With kind regards, Laura de SchepperRikken
