Bernadette (Bernie) Ferrell, nee Coleman

Bernadette (Bernie) Ferrell (nee Coleman), age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023.  Beloved mother of Jennifer (Ernie) Lackner and amazing grandmother to Michael Lackner and Steven Lackner. Dear sister of Jim (Joyce) Coleman.  Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ferrell, her parents, Ervin and Veda Coleman, and her sisters Betty Coleman, Rita (Charles) McAdams, and Linda Bohnenkamp. She is survived by many cherished, fun-loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Bernie enjoyed retirement after working as a Medical Librarian at St. Louis City Hospital, St. Louis Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Hospital.  She touched many lives and made numerous long-lasting friendships over many years.  She will be deeply missed by all.

Services: Visitation at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4-8 pm and Service to be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10am, Kutis South County, followed by burial service at St. Paul Churchyard, 7600 South Rock Hill Road, St. Louis, 63123.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association,12400 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, 63141 and/or Stray Rescue of Missouri, 2320 Pine Street, St. Louis, 63103.

  1. Jennifer, thank you for letting me know…it’s weird, she has been in my thoughts the past few days…my sister turned 72 today and it made me think if Linda! I am so very sorry for your loss and for me, and our City Hospital loss. Your mom was sort of the matriarch of our last standing City Hospital ladies
    Jennifer, I am in Florida now and I am so very sorry that I cannot your mothers burial. As always, I am here for your and love your mother to death

  2. Bernie was a stellar resource as the Medical Librarian at St
    Louis Regional Medical Center. It was a pleasure having lunches and keeping up with her through the years – she always had a smile, a great sense of humor and positive energy. Condolences to her family – she will be missed.
