Jerry Angelo Berra, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Monday September 21. He was born October 20, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo.
Jerry worked as a union bricklayer for 40 years and was so proud of his craft. Jerry never met a stranger. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, no matter where he was. Jerry was a man who could never sit for long. His yard, plants, and feeding the birds and fish in his backyard pond were his passion. Additionally, Jerry loved anything St. Louis sports related along with golf outings several times a week, as it gave him an opportunity to be in community with others and share the chocolate chip cookies he made. A daily communicant, Jerry demonstrated his faith from his works. Whether he was volunteering for the Knights of Columbus, Ronald McDonald House, St. Vincent de Paul or taking care of “the boys,” he was always giving of himself to others.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Betty Adams Berra, his sons Michael (Paula) Berra, Eddy (Virginia) Burchell, his daughter Julie Berra, his granddaughters Lexi Berra and Olivia Burchell, his sisters Carolyn Hahn, Jan (Ken) Roth, Judy (Rick) Osborn. He has proceeded in death by his son Kevin Berra and both of his parents Mike and Clara Berra.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd. The memorial mass of resurrection will be at Saint Catherine Laboure, 9740 Sappington Rd on Friday, October 9th at 10 AM with internment at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Saint Catherine Laboure’s St. Vincent de Paul Society and Knights of Columbus – Council 12323 or the Ronald McDonald House.
