As Scarlett O’Hara said in one of Norma’s favorite movies, “Death, taxes and childbirth! There’s never any convenient time for any of them.” And indeed, this is abundantly true as we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Norma L. Wheelehon (Kamer), always an independent spirit, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2024 at the age of 76. Her unwavering love for her children, Doug (Angie) Wheelehon and Jennifer Wheelehon (Don Osley) defined her life. When they were young she was a scout leader, room mother, church volunteer, and a constant at their sporting and school events. As they grew into adults, her love expanded to include their spouses and their families.
Yet, her greatest happiness was found in the laughter and time she spent with Evan and Colin Dion, her beloved grandchildren or “gorgeous boys” as she called them. She enjoyed being their grandma – from sewing them baby clothes, to sending them over the top cookie packages to traveling across the country to surprise them at Christmas. Later, she was thrilled to add two more grandchildren to her family, Matthew and Ryan Osley. They are blessed to have had her endless love.
Norma also cherished the companionship of her siblings Marty (Sue) Kamer, deceased, Fran (Dick, deceased) Mazanec, Jeanette(Ken) Sloan, Celeste (Larry) Borowiak and Marian Tomiser with whom she shared countless hours of laughter, game and card playing, big family holidays and imbibing on a well-made gin gimlet.
She was enamored with history and genealogy, believed chocolate should be its own food group, was creative through art, sewing, and crafts, and liked a good book. She took pride in teaching herself how to do things including the skills to be a paralegal for more than 25 years.
She was a lifetime resident of St. Louis, MO and graduate of Roosevelt High School.
Norma will be remembered for her tenacity, self-reliance and most of all love of her family. We will love and miss you forever!
Memorial Visitation Monday, October 30, 4:00 p.m. until Memorial Service 6:00 p.m. at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois Rd.
Jeanette, we are so sorry for your loss! Norma must have had a tireless spirit Hopefully, she didn’t suffer at the end of her life here on earth. May she get some delightful surprises in the afterlife, lots of laughs and great card games, not to mention some rest.
The staff and residents @ Cypress Point Skilled Nursing would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Ms. Wheelehon’s family. We didn’t have a lot of time to get to know her well, but the time she was here, we enjoyed caring for and visiting with her. After reading her obituary, its very obvious that she was a special lady and loved by all who had the privileged to know her. Thoughts and prayers for her family during this difficult time.
