Dear sister of Laura (Dominic) Garritano, Mark (Michelle) Craig and Amy Craig. Our dear sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend.
Kathleen was a long-time nurse in the St. Louis area. During her career, she was fortunate to work with many wonderful nurses at Barnes Hospital, St. Anthony’s Hospital, and Saint Louis University Hospital. Most recently, Kathleen has combined her love of nursing with her passion for educating as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing at Saint Louis University. She loved teaching and mentoring the next generation of nurses and will be greatly missed by her colleagues and students.

Kathleen getting to know you last summer was such a treat. To see your heart for students was so inspiring. From the moment I saw you teach, I immediately understood the genuine care and compassion you had for them. That care and compassion was not limited to the students, but extended to myself and our colleagues. I’ll forever be inspired by the way you cared for others. May your soul rest with our Heavenly Father. My most heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family 💐. I can only imagine your pain, may the God of all comfort, allow his love and peace to consume you during this very difficult time.
Kathleen,
You will be truly missed. Your personality and kindness touched so many people. Your compassion for your students was unmatched. Whenever we talked it was always genuine. You don’t know how much it meant to have you in my life. Some of my hardest times you were always willing to lend a listening ear and a warm hug. Thank you for being such a beautiful person.
Kathleen
Your presence will truly be missed. It was such a treat having you around as a mentor and listening ear during summer classes. Heaven has gained a sweet angel. I pray for strength and comfort to the Carrill family during this time❤️🌺
Kathleen and Family,
Such a profound loss for the school of nursing at Saint Louis University and all that knew Kathleen, as a student, peer, faculty, staff, and mentor. Kathleen was one of the kindest, most compassionate, generous, caring people to everyone no matter who you were. She never hesitated to drop whatever she was doing to volunteer or help anyone with anything they needed. She was always available to listen and support anyone with class work or personal issues. So very loved. I will miss her terribly. I know God takes the best…. well he got a good one in Kathleen. Prayers for Chris, Adam, Anna, and Emily as they move forward. May loving cherished memories bring you comfort in your loss. She loved you all so very much.
Words cannot describe how warm, vibrant, and profound Kathleen was as a person. No matter who the person was, she was always the first to offer her support and love, making sure that everyone in her surroundings was okay. Being her student was one of the greatest blessings I could experience because she radiated the meaning of a good nurse. My heart goes out to her loved ones. She will truly be missed.
Kathleen made such an impact on me as a nurse. She was my first clinical instructor and there for the first time I gave a patient medicine as a student. She was kind and encouraging when I didn’t even think I was good enough or smart enough to be a nurse. I don’t ever think I’ll forget her. All my love to her family and students.
Professor Carril,
Words can not express the impact you have had on this program; the impact you have had on my very own experience. From the beginning you have shown us so much support, compassion and made us feel like we had a mother away from home, always taking care of not only our success within this program but our overall wellbeing. Even with your latest news. I will forever be grateful for your guidance and love. I hope I can be HALF the human being, mother, and nurse that you are.
Truly a blessing to have met you, a spectacular woman. ~ Sheronda Jackson

From the beginning you have shown us so much support, compassion and made us feel like we had a mother away from home, always taking care of not only our success within this program but our overall wellbeing. My dear sweet friend, you have been the kindest, sweetest, most generous friend that I have ever had. The impact that you have had on your friends, family. and students had no bounds. Your love for others was demonstrated in all that you said and did. You exemplified what is was like to be a caring, compassionate, and loving teacher. You always put others first. Even as you began to deal with your diagnosis, you STILL put others first. You always spoke so lovingly about your children. My favorite thing was when you would refer to them as “my Anna”, “my Emily”, and “my Adam”. The fact that you placed the word “my” in front of their names was so endearing. I will NEVER forget all of our looong phone conversations as we navigated summer school during COVID and the summers to follow or the kindness you and your family showed to Nick when he needed an “audience” for an assignment. Although you have touched so many lives as the angel you were, there are absolutely NO words to describe how much you truly meant to me! I love you and will miss you greatly!
Kathleen and Family,
Words cannot express how much we will miss you. She was truly a caring and compassionate colleague. When I reached out to get student volunteers for a project, she never hesitated to help. When I asked if I could speak to her class to share some information, the answer was “yes when do you want to come”. Kathleen was kind and a true team player. You are forever in our hearts. May God bless your family and shower them with peace, love, and comfort.
Kathleen was one of the kindest professors I have ever had throughout my education at SLU. I am so grateful to have been her student and to have gotten to know her. Her passion for nursing lives on through her students, including me. She always rooted for her students and was a great support to anyone struggling. Her encouragement to continue when things became hard was inspiring. I was heartbroken to hear of her passing. I will miss her greatly. I know the whole SLU nursing community feels the same.
To the family my deepest condolences. Kathleen was such a loving caring person. She will be deeply missed. Sending prayers to the family. From the Deluca’s
During my first year as a nurse, I had the privilege of sharing a significant triumph with Kathleen. Her radiant smile and warm embrace spoke volumes as she read the heartfelt sentiments within the card I presented to her from a family member. The lessons of compassion, kindness, love, and resilience she imparted upon me and countless others will forever resonate for generations to come. She will be greatly missed.
Dear Josh,
You don’t know me, but I certainly know you. You’re the nurse who watched over my grandmother following her heart surgery. You were the one who gave my grandfather, mother, and aunt a night to rest after a long and stressful day of waiting to hear if Grandma’s surgery went well. You’re the kind and compassionate soul who makes sacrifices, works too many hours, and doesn’t get enough breaks, yet still finds it in his heart to care for my loved ones by giving Grandma the best care. You are a guardian angel on her first night of recovery. Please know that we can’t say enough how much we appreciate you. Thank you for taking care of Grandma and for being a nurse.
Prayers and gratitude.”
Chris: I just learned of Kathleen’s passing. I know how much you loved her and my heart breaks for you and your children. You have my deepest sympathies and lifetime friendship.
Chris and family-
We are just learning of Kathleen’s passing and are sending our deepest condolences and prayers to you all. We can not imagine the hole you must feel in your hearts. Prayers that you hang onto each other tightly as you walk forward.
Words of sympathy feel inadequate in expressing grief and sorrow for a loss so great. Wishing you and your families peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Kathleen,
I recently heard of your passing from a former classmate. You were such a compassionate and generous person, nurse, and teacher. You supported us and gave us your time so selflessly. I never saw you frustrated and always welcomed everyone. You made everyone feel so comfortable. Thank you for everything you have done for all the nursing students. We will miss you and won’t ever forget your memory.
