In Loving Memory

Costa, Mary June (Benoist)

January 4, 1958 - October 17, 2025

Mary June Costa (nee Benoist), age 67, of Kirkwood, Missouri passed away peacefully on October 17th, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Benoist and brothers George and Jack Benoist.

Born on January 4th, 1958, Mary was a devoted wife to Joe Costa; beloved mother to Jamie (Tim) Redington and Michael (Kelly) Welch.  Proud and cherished Granny to Vivian and Delilah Redington.  Loving sister to Larry (Therese) Benoist, Dan (Laura) Benoist, Beth Jurgensen, Barb (Tom) Buschmann, Dave (Jenny) Benoist, Jim (Mary) Benoist, Jill Munsell, Don (Sue) Benoist, Donna Ruemker, Frank Benoist, Joyce (Pat) Poston, Pierre (Kathy) Benoist.

Adoring Junie to Elizabeth Bannister, Bridget Poston, Tracy (Stan) Brandmeyer, Dana (Mike) Wood, Joe (Charlotte) Costa, Tony Costa, JD Brandmeyer, Sanli Woodward, Chase Smith, Alex Smith, Rachel Vester, Joey Marvel, Will Smith, 32 nieces and nephews, 36 great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Family was the true center of Junie’s world — the source of her greatest pride, joy, and purpose. She embraced every role she held with deep love and devotion: a cherished wife, a nurturing mother, a proud and doting Granny, and a loyal sister. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by the people she loved most. Her granddaughters, Vivian and Delilah, were the light of her life — her heart’s delight and constant source of inspiration. Their laughter and presence filled her days with immeasurable joy.

Junie also shared an unbreakable bond with her beloved sister and best friend, Joyce. Their time together was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of deep connection that only sisters can understand. Their relationship was a constant reminder of the strength and beauty of sisterhood.  For Junie, family wasn’t just important — it was everything.

Her kindness, compassion, and unconditional love were unmatched.  She lived a life of putting others first, always thinking about how she could help or give – never about what she might get in return.  She was strong, selfless, generous, funny, happy, determined and always on the go.  She brought so much joy and fun to everyone around her.

SERVICES: Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, St. Louis, MO 63123 on Friday, October 24th from 3-8.  A funeral mass for Mary will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4200 Delor Street, St. Louis, MO 63116.  Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 6901 Mackenzie Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123.

The family kindly asks that you wear pink, Junie’s favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Condolences

Spoke to your Mom/Sister at the ck in at theDr. office in the past few years. She always spoke of you all with smile and that you all kept her busy.
She played soccer with us outdoor in high school and Indoor mixed League later on.

  4. I remember when the Benoist family moved to the south side. I could walk a block over and have a street hockey game because there was so many of them. I knew Mary very well because I hung with her twin brother Jim. If I remember correctly, Mary never had a bad word for anyone unless you crossed her path. Condolences to the whole Benoist family. May she rest in peace.

  7. Our legacy is not in the title we earned or the fortune we saved.
It is in the smiles we encouraged and the memories left behind.

  10. I met Mary at my first medical job right out of school. She was 20 yrs my senior but was always willing to show me the ropes. We worked together off and on for over 25 yrs. She was always smiling, had great attitude, and living her best life with her family and friends. She will be missed and my deep sorrow and regret to her family.

  11. Recently ran into Mary June at St. Joan of Arc school picnic. Shared a table with her, Joe, Chrissy, Kimmy, Michael, Liz , myself and a few first graders. Later on Joyce and her family joined us too. We laughed till we cried that day. We shared a pretzel, funnel cake and picnic junk food! Mary June ran out to get herself a snow cone in a cup. Never saw her so happy as when she returned to the table with it! We all walked multiple times in the cake walk. We were cracking ourselves up but not winning anything! This is the day that I will remember her by! Rest in peace pretty lady! ♥️
