  3. Mr. Crisler was way ahead of the times. In 1978 when I took his computer programming class—I could not understand how punch cards would save time. Then…he envisioned how computers would eventually save time. A classic. Doug Neeb told me he was a TITAN. A great man, indeed!

  7. Mr. Crisler is so warmly remembered! He was a great math teacher and was the one that introduced me to a computer way back the 70s. He was a supportive friend to my dad through the years and they shared a passion for Crusader football! A wonderful role model to teens and adults for many decades. Rest in love!

  8. Such a great and humble man. Mr. Crisler had such an impact on my life. It was in his class I wrote my first computer program on paper tape. I still remember the thrill of hearing the modem send it off to be processed. From him I learned computers could help us and, more importantly, how you treat people is important.

  11. Paul was such a force in Lutheran education, a person who inspired others to reach for excellence in the same way he did. He was also warm, kind, and compassionate, and he was always willing to bend an ear with any problem I ever brought to him. And such a great sense of humor — he took his mission seriously but never himself. Carolyn, you and your family are in my prayers.

  15. Our sincere sympathy to Paul’s entire family, especially to Caroline. Paul was a respected, loved colleague for all of us that worked with him. He had a “Christ-like” demeanor that was a calm, caring approach to all encounters. Paul was THE Lutheran educator and Principal in the greater St. Louis area. Paul’s legacy to St. Louis will be his constant dedication to Lutheran education. Paul will be missed by all. Thankfully, we have the realization that Paul is with our Heavenly Father with peace and joy for all eternity.

  16. Mr. Crisler was a no non-sense teacher and coach who was always positive and encouraging. Years after graduation, I got to work with him on various committees at LHSN and experienced his humor, studiousness, thoughtfulness, and strong support of LHSN and other Lutheran schools. He was HIGHLY respected in the Lutheran education community across the country and will be missed. Condolences to you Mrs. Crisler and the family.

Paul was such a great friend and partner in our ministry at North. His forward thinking and vision for the school was unmatched by any of us. As a former trombone player, he was very supportive
of the band program. I also got to know him in a more personal way during the years we coached track together. Those trips to state track meets were memorable. God blessed his ministry in so many ways. Rest in peace “Tall Paul”

  21. Paul Chrisler was my math/algebra teacher in the late ‘60’s/start of the ‘70’s. He was my three sons’ principal and track coach at Lutheran High School North. He was innovative in instruction, seeking many ways to share his love of mathematics. As a principal, he was firm and fair, communicating both a sense of reasonable order, that transferred into real life, and a true understanding of both law, when necessary, and Gospel.
His goal was always to create a Christ-like atmosphere for all. He emulated Christ in decision-making and action and was a positive role model for students, parents, and faculty.
He was instrumental in positive change, always humble. He was a true hero for good in his life. He will always be remembered for this and remembered for his great witness to the faith.
Praise God Almighty he is resting with Jesus! What a great loss for us and his dear family.

  22. What a great MAN OF GOD. I am a CRUSADER ‘56 grad and Paul and I were undergrads at Concordia Chicago and refereed church league basketball games together. We continued as friends during our professional careers in His service as Lutheran teachers. I am sadden by his passing but overjoyed that he has won his crown and lives with Jesus for eternity. My sympathies to his family and his many friends.

  24. Mr. Crisler was a tireless writer during track season. “Track Talk” could be picked up in Mr. Crisler’s Algebra Home Room most mornings after a track meet the previous day. There, mimeographed for all time, Mr. Crisler summarized highlights of our track escapades. He covered times and distances for each event and captured an insightful review of the spirit and heart of his track competitors. It seems truly appropriate to say, “God’s Speed Mr. Crisler.”
