Rodney W. Flottmann, 61, of St. Louis, MO (formerly Champaign, IL) passed away at 8:30 AM on October 2, 2023, surrounded by family.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Cindy, and they shared 38 years of marriage together.
Born in Springfield, MO on February 20th, 1962, he was the son of William and Mildred Flottmann. He grew up in Arcola, Illinois where he and his sisters were subject to hard work on the farm, but plenty of barn shenanigans as well. After graduating from high school, he attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Marketing Degree, and later went on to earn his MBA from Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois-Springfield). In 1984 he met Cindy while working in St. Louis, and after they were married in 1985, the couple followed his career back to Central Illinois to start a family. After residing in Decatur, IL for 14 years, the family relocated to Champaign, IL in 1999 where Rodney continued to grow in his faith at St. Matthew Parish and was a beloved member of his community. Most recently, the couple relocated to St. Louis in late 2020 to be closer to family – specifically his three beautiful grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Pepaw” and who absolutely adored him.
Rodney was a devoted husband, and loving father, son, brother, and loyal friend. He enjoyed golf, travel, fishing, gardening, and cooking for the people he loved most. His quick wit and sense of humor made him a joy to be around.
Rodney is survived by his wife Cindy Flottmann; daughter, Cassandra Dolan (Patrick); son, Matthew Flottmann; grandchildren, Alice, Patrick, and Arthur Dolan; father, William Flottmann; sister, Rhonda Flottmann (Nora); sister, Renee Flottmann (Bonnie).

Rodney and I were friends in school, and I can say we laughed a lot. I am disappointed that we lost contact after high school, only reconnecting when we both happened to be at the same class reunion at the same time. I will always remember his smile, laughter and heart. He will be missed, and I am sorry for the tremendous loss his family is experiencing.
