Passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the age of 78.
Beloved husband of Marilyn Heaven (nee Wylie) for 57 years; loving father of Bryan (Cindy) Heaven and Trudi (Brian) Sanders; adoring grandfather of Jessica (Spencer) Walton, Brendan Heaven and Megan Heaven; dear brother of Linda (Morris) Thomas, Marilyn (Dave) Harster, Rita (the late David) Staat, dear brother-in-law of Susan (Vince) Baumstark, Heather (John) Sasur and Pamela Wylie. Our dearest uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Walter graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1963 and from Central Methodist University in 1969 and attended graduate classes at Webster University. Walt retired from Steris Corporation in 2011.
Walter traveled with family and friends to many places including: Thailand, Michigan, Innsbrook, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts and Vermont. Walter loved spending time at Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. Walt loved nature and was very educated on identifying birds and trees, etc.
Walt was a hunter since his teenage years, hunting in Park Hills, Fayette, Rolla and most recently at his son in laws farm in Ironton.
When hunting Walt would rise at 4am and shortly thereafter was in the woods to admire the forest waking up before the hunt.
Walter was very proud of his children and grandchildren and the productive adults they are today. Walt also loved being with friends at their pool and the area wineries.
Walt was a quiet man unless you were talking about hunting, firearms or stock investments.
Walter will be missed greatly by his wife, family and friends.
Walter was an organ donor with Mid-America Transplant Services.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Jude Childrens Reseach Hospital, or Pony Bird or to a charity of your choice appreciated.

My heart goes out to you and yours. Praying you can have some peace and comfort as you travel this endless grief journey.
I always admired Wally when he and Marilyn were dating. I thought of him as an older brother I never had. After their marriage I felt so fortunate to have him as a brother-in-law. When I needed advice on finances I would always call Wally. I loved him dearly and have always been comfortable around him. He was so intelligent and had a great sense of humor. Our family reunions were “unique” and Walt always went with the flow. I have lost a very important family member. I will love Wally forever.
Marilyn, I am so sorry for your loss. Know that God has His healing hands on you and has Walt in his arms. I will be thinking of you in the days to come.
Margret

At the Arnold and Rifle Pistol Club, I was President and Walter was a rock. I could always depend on him to help me lead the club in the right. I would look for him at every meeting after he and I left officer positions. He was just a great man and we spent many hours just jawing about our lives. I will really miss him.
