  1. On the afternoon of March 13th, 2026, I witnessed my dad transition into the afterlife with his loving wife Mary by his side, who he loved more than life itself. The shock set in and the tears started to flow, even though we know that Wally was not a very emotional man and he wouldn’t want us to carry on like that. I am grateful for the times we had and the memories we made together. He passed peacefully and he is no longer suffering. He was a very dedicated husband and father. He was at every single soccer, basketball, baseball and football game I ever played in. He also made it a priority to make it to as many of his granddaughter’s sports games as he could, even though they were in Kansas. One of his greatest traits is knowing how to make you laugh. Until we meet again, I love you dad. Rest in Peace.

  2. Wally was my good friend for 54 years. We met when we worked together on a political campaign in 1972. I will miss his company. He was one of the nicest men I’ve ever known.

My special condolences to John Hose, Wally’s brother, and to Joel, of course.

  3. I met Wally in the late 70s when he, his brother John, and I lived in a four family flat near the Botanical Garden. Rent was $90 a month with heat included. It may have been a step down from Trump Tower in Manhattan but we loved it. All of us immediately bonded and became good friends. It was literally impossible not to like Wally from the moment you met him. Many stories, but one worth noting is when Wally coaxed his brother John and I to go to South Bend IN for the first game of the 1978 Mizzou football season against Notre Dame. He got tickets somehow. Warren Powers was the new coach and Dan Devine was coming off a national championship with Notre Dame. Wally had a feeling we could beat them. He was right: we won 3-0. Wally was extremely smart, hard working, and had a razor-sharp sense of humor. Take care Walter in your new surroundings..

  4. I knew Walter or “Wally” Hose as the oldest cousin in the St. Louis “clan” of George and Mary Hose’s children. I am in the Chicago group of cousins–Mary is my father John Rowley’s older sister. As such, we would often come down and visit, especially during the summer. Wally was the oldest out of all the cousins, and I remembered talking to him as I grew up and listening to what he had to say about politics. I also got to experience his sense of humor, and I always remember him smiling and talking with us younger cousins when we came to visit. We will miss him!
