In Loving Memory

Matthes, Michael C.

February 17, 1954 - March 11, 2026

Michael C. Matthes passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 72.

Mike spent much of his life serving others. He worked for many years in the restaurant industry, where he found joy in cooking, baking, catering, and bringing people together around a good meal. In the past 20 years, he owned and operated his own cleaning business, continuing the hardworking spirit and care for others that defined his life.

Mike was known for his generosity, his hard work, and his big heart. Taking care of people came naturally to him, whether through the meals he cooked, the help he offered, or the time he shared with family and friends. He especially enjoyed cooking and baking, working in the yard, admiring classic cars, and spending time with those he loved.

Mike was a lifelong Catholic whose faith remained important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lenore Matthes.

He is survived by his children Marianne Matthes (Rhonda), Michael Matthes, Christopher Matthes, and Timothy Matthes (Tasha); his siblings Don Matthes, Sandy Geraghty, Tom Matthes, Jan Klumb, and Mark Matthes; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved godchildren, Sarah Cerone, Emily Klumb, and Rhett Geraghty.

Christmas held a special place in Mike’s heart. Even when times were difficult, he made sure the holiday felt magical for his children—full of traditions, good food, and laughter. His family hopes to honor his memory by carrying that same spirit forward for others.

  1. A man’s legacy is not measured by how large of a house he had, nor the wealth he accumulated. It is measured by what he leaves the world. Knowing his son Michael has been a great joy in my life and I thank Michael for raising a son that has been a great benefit to all those who have the chance to know him.

    Thank you.

  3. Mike and I were great friends when we were young. The nicest kid I ever met.
And apparently did not change as an adult.
The world has lost a great soul.
    Condolences to all .

  4. It is my privilege to know Mike’s son, Michael, and to know how much he revered his father. Although I never met Mike, I am confident that his spirit will live on through his son and his family. It is always humbling to know or to read about individuals who place others before themselves. My sincere condolences to the Matthes family.
