April 21, 1939 – February 17, 2025
On Monday morning, February 17, 2025, Joyce Ann Muhlhauser (nee Linse), loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, entered into rest at the age of 85.
Joyce was born the oldest of four children to Marcus and Lois (nee Mager) Linse in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. When Joyce was a small child, the family moved to central Iowa where Joyce was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School. Joyce furthered her education by attending nursing school in St, Louis, Missouri where she met the love of her life, James C. Muhlhauser.
Joyce and Jim married on August 15, 1959 in Marion, Iowa and were able to celebrate 52 years of marriage before Jim’s passing on April 17, 2012. Joyce and Jim made their home in St. Louis and to this union, two children were born; Mark C. Muhlhauser on January 1, 1961 and James M. (Michael) Muhlhauser born January 29, 1964.
After the boys were older and in school, Joyce began working at Peters Marketing Research and had a long career managing marketing research projects until her retirement. During this time, Joyce was also involved with her sons’ activities, caring for the family home, enjoying card parties with their friends, and participating in the Ladies Guild at Salem Lutheran Church-Affton.
Upon retirement, Joyce and Jim loved traveling and spending time with family, especially sharing experiences with their grandson, Evan. Joyce had many close friends who were family to her, and she cherished and celebrated these relationships throughout her life.
Joyce was a devout Lutheran and was always willing to share her faith. She and Jim made sure that their sons attended Lutheran schools, having them attend Salem Elementary and Lutheran High School South. She was a Small Group Bible Study Leader, continued to study the bible (having studied Latin this past year), read daily devotions, and kept faith journals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her sons Mark and Mike, and her sister Marlene and her husband Tom Wiegand. She leaves to grieve, her grandson, Evan Muhlhauser and his mother, Julie Muhlhauser, sister Cheryl Linse and brother Mark Linse as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and her lifelong friends.
Services: Visitation will be at the Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens, 8749 Watson Road, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Redeemer Cemetery, 8300 MacKenzie Road 63123. Pallbearers include Phillip Linse, Greg Linse, Rob Borkgren, Butch Daut, Steve Meyer, and Bruce Lungwitz.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the care and services Joyce received from Unity Hospice as well as the many friends who texted, called, and sent cards. A special thanks to her community of friends at Laclede Groves who were always so kind and checked on her frequently.
If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Seminary – St. Louis, The Ladies Guild at Salem Lutheran Church-Affton, or the charity of ones’ choice. Friends may sign the on-line guestbook at Kutis.com.
Joyce always had a kind word for everyone. Her concern for family and friends was always apparent and heart felt. I especially appreciated her faith and her commitment to her church. Joyce will be missed.
Joyce was the nicest person I have ever met . She was a family friend since I’ve been about 6 years old .(over 60 years ago) She endured more heartache than anyone ever should ever have to . I will miss our visits whenever I was in town . So glad her pain is over and she is with her family again . Will forever be in my heart .
I will always remember Joyce, she and I used to shop at the same grocery store, Shop and Save. I would run into her when I waited at the deli. Always positive and kind in her words, never forgetting to ask how I was. She was a client at our branch and my FA and I will miss her dearly.

It is with deep sadness that I write this message. I will miss Joyce so much. What a kind, loving, Christian woman. I got to work with Jim & Joyce for almost 20years and my life is better for having met them. Though they each struggled with the illness of this this world, they are back together again for eternity. May God grant His peace to the Muhlhauser family and guide them thru their grief. I will miss Joyce terribly.

Our hearts are broken to hear the passing of a beautiful lady and friend Joyce. I knew her from working with her at Peter’s Marketing Research. She was a beautiful spirit filled Christian who loved her family dearly and so proud of her grandson Evan. I was blessed to see and visit with her a couple of times in the last year.. she always had a beautiful smile and will always be remembered in sharing her faith and doing for others. Prayers for the Muhlhauser Family.
Joyce has been a very dear and close friend for many years. She was a high school friend graduating from Franklin in 1957. After both of us married we continued to do things together as couples. We did a lot of water skiing and spending some vacation times together. They were in St. Louis and we were in Iowa. Joyce was a loving and caring person and her family was her top priority. She came to Iowa last July and she came to see me. We had a great time remembering the good old days! I will miss her! Prayers for her family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace Joyce!
