In Loving Memory

Mullen, Mark R.

September 11, 1956 - December 16, 2024

Mullen, Mark R. age 68, Asleep in Jesus on Monday, December 16, 2024. Beloved husband of Louise M. Mullen (nee Lamprecht) for 46 years. Loving son of Robert and the late “Dale” Marion Mullen; dear brother of Mike (Sonya) and the late Stacy Mullen; dear brother-in-law of Vera Lamprecht, George Lamprecht, Claude Lamprecht, Nancy Jones, Mike (Terri) Lamprecht, Bob (Kristin) Lamprecht and Cathy (Jeff) Pritchett; our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

As a youngster, Mark was proud to become an Eagle Scout and go to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico three times. Mark has been a longstanding member at Peace Lutheran Church and an usher for 50 years. He had friends scattered across the country from his love of all things Disney.

After he retired he took up two volunteer services. He walked dogs at Open Door Animal Sanctuary in House Springs. He also joined St. Louis Children’s Hospital in their Family Center. He was so proud to offer services to families and make them feel welcome in their “home” away from home when their child was hospitalized. He went out of his way to help others – even strangers. But even they soon became friends. He lived his life with compassion and kindness and love for his fellow man.

Services: Visitation at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., Sunday, December 22 from 1-6 p.m. Then taken to Peace Lutheran Church 737 Barracksview Rd., Monday, December 23, for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until funeral at 1:30 p.m. Interment St. Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Louis Children’s Hospital Family CenterGive Kids the World Village, or Open Door Animal Sanctuary appreciated.

Condolences

  3. Mark was an amazing individual. He came to work for me while he was still going to high school to work with the computer equipment at the company. He and I worked together until I retired in 2013 and every day, he excelled in his chosen profession. As a longtime friend, he will be sorely missed. My warmest thoughts and prayers to out to his wife, Louise.

  4. It’s hard to believe you’re gone. We hold onto and treasure the times spent together with you and Louise having dinners and going on trips.   The jokes, kidding around, and conversation often had us laughing so hard we cried.  We are also thankful for the times you offered a helping hand through difficult times. Your passing has left us a big void in our lives.  I know your legacy of giving, love, and warmth remains with us and will be shared.
    Love Cathy and Jeff

    • I was so sad to hear of Mark’s passing. I looked forward to seeing him every Monday morning when I came in for coffee and laundry. “Living” in the hospital week after week is draining but being recognized and remembered helps you feel seen. Mark made me feel seen. I will also miss his vacation stories. What a great guy!

  10. My husband, Ben, worked with Mark at Carr Lane. He would tell me what an awesome and kind person Mark was. Right before our oldest child was born 18 years ago Mark made us a growth chart to track her height through the years. We cherish that lovely growth chart with the pink crown still today. Mark helped us capture many memories with that over the years.

This world certainly was a better place because of Mark. My condolences.

  13. I met Mark back in 1999 when we were working on a Y2K issue for his company. We spent a lot of time crammed into a tiny room loading data into a new Oracle system. Even though the work could get stressful, Mark always kept things light with his humor and great personality. He was one of those people who made you enjoy being around him, no matter the situation.

One funny thing I’ll never forget about Mark was the cans of blue deodorizer he always kept around his desk. He called it “baby blue” and even had a little song he’d sing—“Baby blue, baby blue”—while spraying it around. Let’s just say, in that small room, after lunch, it came in handy more than once (and yeah, it was usually him needing it). He also loved the song “Blue Moon,” so I guess blue was kind of his thing.

Mark’s favorite place in the world was Disney World. I never quite understood it, but he went often, sometimes with dozens of extended family members, and Mark being Mark, he usually took care of everything for everyone. That’s just who he was—intelligent, philosophical, generous, and caring. He was the kind of person I aspire to be.

He talked about Louise all the time and clearly adored her. He even had us over to his home, showing the same warmth and kindness he shared with everyone. He had a way of making people feel at ease and bringing everyone together.

I’m going to miss him, and I know so many others will too. I love you, Mark. Rest easy—you were truly one of a kind.
