Kenneth Olson

In Loving Memory

Olson, Kenneth Arthur

August 19, 1930 - October 22, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Arthur Olson, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the home of his eldest daughter. He was 94 years old, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and kindness that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born in Erie, Illinois, a small Northern IL farming town, Ken was a natural athlete from a young age. He excelled in both baseball and basketball in high school, and went on to pitch for the Bradley University Braves, where he also earned a degree in Business Administration. His love of sports, combined with his infectious sense of humor, made him both a respected teammate and an unforgettable friend.

After college, Ken answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Air Force during the Korean War. He carried his love for his family and his country throughout his life, balancing his dedication to both with his characteristic grace and strength.

In 1962, Ken married Carole Barker. Together, they built a loving home and raised five children, instilling in them the values of kindness, humor, and resilience. Ken found joy in the simple pleasures- telling a good joke, sharing a laugh, and making those around him feel cherished.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Theresa, his sisters, Dorthy & Betty, his niece, Theresa, and grandson, Ted. He is survived by his five children: Debi (George) Kienstra, Barry “Skip” (Pam) Olson, Doreen (Mark) Propst, Jeff (Andrea) Olson and Scott (Lisa) Olson.

He is also survived by Carole Olson, his former wife and mother of his children, and numerous grandchildren: Kori, Kyle, Zach, Jen, Hailey, Morgan, Nick, Frankie, Lauryn, Isaac & Eve, and great-grandchildren: Lylah, Grayson and Olivia. As well as his nephews, Greg & Tommy, and niece, Sandy. His humor, warmth, and unwavering love will be forever missed but lovingly remembered by all.

A private service will be held at Jefferson Barricks Cemetery where Ken will be laid to rest with military honors.
