  1. Marlene and her mother were neighbors of my parents, Chester and Victoria Virga, in Lakeshire (and me when I lived there). She remained a good neighbor to my sisters who are now there. My deepest sympathy to her whole family. I am sure she will be greatly missed.

  2. I enjoyed Marlene’s interest and excitement about everything when having a conversation. She knew some of my family and always cared how they were. She was a kind soul. I knew her for many years.
Rest in peace Marlene. Mary Ann Farrar

  3. Our deepest sympathies from our family to yours. Blessings to you, Marlene, always. She was our neighbor that always helped us out. She was my gardening buddy. We always traded knowledge of it. We miss having her for our “over the wall” talks.

  4. I just learned, in this moment, that my former coworker and friend, Marlene Phelan, passed away on December 1, 2024. Today, June 29th, is her birthday, and I always call her on her birthday. I tried calling her several times over the last year and never made contact. I feared she had passed on, but I didn’t know any members of her family, so I couldn’t contact anyone to confirm my fear or ease my anxiety.

I worked for UAW Region 5 in Bridgeton, Missouri, when Marlene worked there. I could go on and on for days about what a wonderful person Marlene was. She was always kind, caring, and genuinely concerned about everyone in her world. She was known to ask questions, and she had a ton of questions about a variety of subjects. She was totally unafraid to ask them until she achieved a full understanding of the matter at hand.

Her investigative skills would put the TV character, Colombo, to shame. In the office, if we needed more information or to find out the whereabouts of someone who worked there, we would assign this task to Marlene. She would roll up her sleeves and go to work. Her tenacity was unrelenting, and she always came through for us. Marlene’s letters and memos were impeccably constructed, concise, and to the point. She fulfilled every assignment with grace and style. You could give Marlene an assignment knowing she would bring it to a successful conclusion.

I will miss talking to Marlene, hearing her gregarious laughter, her insights on various subjects, and the love she projected onto people in every setting. I am, without a doubt, a better person because I was fortunate enough to have known Marlene Phelan in this life.
