  3. Dear Dennis- you were with us a few short years as a retired federal employee- NARFE chapter 2071 , meeting monthly at Young’s Ice Cream Parlor and Grill in Valley Park. He never mentioned being a decorated Marine. He helped us in whatever needed to be done. We appreciated him like a brother and will miss him dearly. Rest in peace , Dennis, you deserve your heavenly rest- no more pain or crying here!

  9. I celebrate Dennis, a man devoted to family, fellow man, and country. We recently went from acquaintances to friends. He showed me how he persevered through his many challenges and tried to live life on his terms for the betterment of others. While battling painful and crippling Parkinson disease which quite possibly was the result of exposure to Agent Orange during his Purple Heart service in Vietnam, he faced a cancer that might well have also been triggered by same. A bigger concern to Dennis than what the exposure caused him was the possibility that it might cause his son, Michael, problems in the future. He devoted his time and effort trying to improve the lives of others through his charitable work at Circle and St. Vincent DePaul and by trying to help individuals in need whom he met along the way. You were one of a kind, Dennis. I am confident that you now are reaping the rewards of a life well lived. God bless.

  11. I too didn’t know Dennis was a decorated Marine. I just knew him as a great guy. I met him in a bible study, then had continued contact at dances. He was always a much better dancer. Sorry to hear of him leaving us… just too soon.

  13. There are not enough words to describe the gentleness and kindred spirit of this man. He’s the only man I knew that spent the majority of his life helping and serving others with his WHOLE heart. We met decades ago, and grew to be like family, always supported each other as a true friend would. I know he’s up there dancing with the Angels , missed by so many. God blessed him with a purple heart of gold. Thank you for sharing yourself with us all on your journey to peace and You will never be forgotten.
My thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends. God bless you all.

  15. I am so saddened to hear of Dennis’ passing. Dennis served as a volunteer caseworker at Circle of Concern. He showed such patience and compassion toward the individuals who walked through our doors seeking help. He was supportive of our staff members and his fellow volunteers. He was quiet, humble…unassuming. When we learned of his contributions to our country, we were so honored to share his story. I remember his smile when we discussed the article with him. We are better for having known this dear man. May he rest in peace.

  25. Den lived across the street with his parents and brother Ken. I have many memories or our childhood days. We spent many hours under their front porch playing with little matchbox cars and building roads. His mom Marge was very creative and once made a skating rink in their backyard. She and our mothers would plan elaborate theme birthday parties. Once she took us to the movies and when we came out some fun loving folks had picked up her VW and placed it on the sidewalk! Den liked to tease me like a sister and the boys certainly seemed like brothers as we were growing up. He was a nice guy and very generous of his time.

  29. I was fortunate to share casework duties with Dennis during multiple shifts for several years, and came to know him as a deeply caring and devoted volunteer who was totally committed to his clients and to his duties at Circle. Any number of clients came to depend on Dennis’ support and council and were insistent on keeping their appointments with him. I and many who knew him will miss Dennis and his wise and gentle presence greatly.

  31. Dennis was the most giving and kind person I have ever met. We worked for several years together at Circle of Concern, and the kindness and passion he felt for the folks who visited the Pantry far exceeded the time and effort needed for a regular appointment. We shared many “coffee dates” talking about his illness, and what he can expect as worsened, but Dennis was always a brave man who was more concerned for his son than himself. Dennis, I miss you so very much, but I know that you are no longer in pain, and that you are a shining Saint with our Lord, who you love so much! I can’t wait to see you again…

  33. Dennis was a gentle, compassionate, humble man, who unselfishly shared his time, heart and helping hand with so many. His kindness knew no bounds. He always greeted one with a big smile; behind which we knew were health challenges. Those challenges never stopped his charitable acts. We will miss him very much at Circle of Concern. Rest In Peace Dennis. You were an example to all who were fortunate to know you.

Dennis and I retired on the same day. We talked occasionally and always looked forward to the Office Christmas parties.

Dennis was a religious man and strong in his faith. Prayers for Dennis and his family.

  47. I was recently thinking of a young injured GI by this name whom I visited in a Catholic hospital in Malaysia while a teenage school girl attending Assunta convent. I remember how kind and nice he was and with another GI in the bed next to him. We corresponded a couple of times. Yesterday I googled his name and saw that he had passed. If same person, I am so sorry for your loss. If same person he was the best and kindest ever and he had such a great sense of humor. Both GIs were injured in an accident while on R&R in Malaysia and hospitalized. We girls visited them of often with goodies as requested by the the Sisters. This was in 1967 or 68.
Funny I ended up marrying an American later, very much like Dennis. We live in San Diego now.
