  4. I first met Ted in the fall of 2002 through a common friend. We bonded instantly over our love of baseball and golf. We would go some stretches 6 nights a week of talking Tiger, the Cardinals, and solving world problems. Possibly many nights there was too much beer consumed and too much money spent playing golden tee. His steady demeanor and unfaltering common sense perfectly cooled my hyperbolic outspokenness. I could go on for 10,000 words and it wouldn’t be enough. He’s the best friend I’ve ever had.

Wherever he is now, I hope it’s 80 degrees and sunny daily. Every Sunday, Tiger wins another tournament and every fall the Cardinals win another World Series.

I plan on seeing you again pal, so keep the Budweiser cold and we can have another proper Sunday night toast to a TW victory.

To Kurt, Jeff, and Lisa – Be strong. He might not be here anymore but I’m certain he is somewhere good and will never be forgotten here.

  9. When my nephew, Amos, was little, he had a stock answer for virtually every question. Almost didn’t matter what you asked him …

    “What’s going on, dude?”

“I ain’t seen you in more than a week. What’s new yo?”

Amos’s auto-reply to the above [and countless other] questions was simply “being good.”

It had obviously been impressed upon him that “being good” was more important than anything else. At the very least, that’s what he’d gathered.

Ted was a beautiful guy —— smart and funny and talented and easy to talk to. However, perhaps the best, most accurate way to describe him?

    Being good.

Ted was good. Always. Every room he was ever in, Ted’s goodness left it better than he’d found it.

And Ted left this Earth better than he found it. Of that, I’m certain.

Hope to see you again, homey. In the meantime, keep being good.
